The smallest Relay is in the L2 H1 configuration, offering a load length of 3120mm and 10 m3. The L2H1 is still a large van, but the more compact choice; it suits those who want more space than a medium van, but do not want to drive an ungainly extended van around.
For the L2/H2 configuration, the load space rises to 11.5 cubic metres, and for one of the most popular in the range, the L3H2, you get 13 cubic metres and a generous load length of 3705mm.
At the top of the scale are the L3/H3, L4/H2 and L4/H3 models, offering up 15 cubic metres (L3/H3 and L4H2) and 17 cubic metres (L4/H3) in load space respectively.
In the longest versions of the Relay, the L4, the extended length is placed behind the rear axle, rather than increasing the length of the wheelbase, making the L3 and L4 identical, wheelbase-wise.
By way of comparison, the Nissan Interstar and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter equivalents match the Relay on gross vehicle weight at 3,500kg, but the Relay 140 L3H2 beats both for load width at 1,870mm and width between the wheelarches at 1,422mm.
There is a slight difference in terms of payload between the diesel and electric versions of the Relay, with the diesel payload between 1200kg and just under two tonnes and the electric reduced to around 710kg, due to the heavier weight of the battery.
Even with the reduced payload, the two are on par for towing capacity, with maximum braked weights landing between 2400kg and 3000kg.
The Relay is available in both Panel Van configuration, as well as a Window Van, Dropside and Tipper.
2026 Citroen Relay: Engine, Performance & Electric
The Relay is available with a 2.2-litre BlueHDi turbodiesel, or in its E-Relay form, a 110kWh battery pack. With the diesel, there is the choice between the 140 and 180 hp outputs, both drawing from the same 2,184cc four-cylinder engine and the accompanying 90-litre fuel tank.
The 180 naturally suits the heavier end of the range, exclusively an automatic with up to 450Nm of torque and a 2,030kg payload. This version returns 37.2mpg and, as an N2-category vehicle, will legally be limited to 56mph with a tachograph fitted. The 140 avoids these restrictions, with 44.8mpg and emissions from 165g/km.
The electric E-Relay uses one of the biggest batteries in the segment, using its 110kWh size to power through up to 235 to 263 WLTP miles depending on body style, with the L3H2 panel van topping the range with 263 miles.
In comparison, the Ford E-Transit gets between 196-249 miles, and the Maxis eDeliver 9 can manage between 186-205, however the new Renault Master/Nissan Interstar beats all of them with an impressive 285 miles of range.

The Citroen Relay (also known as the Jumper in Europe) has been awarded a 5-star EuroNCAP rating, as it is a twin van to the fully tested and rated Fiat Ducato.
