The team at VVS will then contact you to arrange an appointment to view your van and confirm a value. If they can offer a price, it will be guaranteed for seven days.

What improves the value of my van?

High specification models

In a busy resale market, the more desirable elements your van has compared to other models, the better. Optional extras, in particular in-cab technology upgrades, can be appealing to some buyers.

Good mpg

A van that is economical to run will always go down well, especially for those needing to do long journeys. The efficiency of a van will inevitably reduce with age, but regular servicing can be a great indication that the van will keep close to its original from-factory mpg.

Low mileage

An advantage you can make the most of is low mileage. Take a look at other models of your same year and check how your mileage compares to theirs. If you do a lot of miles, keep this in mind when deciding on the best time to sell your van.

Full service history

Reassurance that the van has been well looked after comes from the service history. Keep the service history without gaps and completed by reputable providers, keep the MOTs up to date, correct any advisories and you will be able to prove the van has been looked after in your care.

In-date warranty

A valid warranty adds value for any future owner, especially when it comes to a used van. A warranty will give you peace of mind that your van is covered throughout your ownership, and you may also receive added value when you come to sell.

What lowers the value of my van?

Bad condition

Should your van suffer from poor bodywork, a worn and torn interior or rough mechanical condition, it might be worth getting all or some of these checked out for repair. They all play a role in decreasing the value of your van in the eyes of a new buyer.

Previous owners

The higher the number of previous owners, the less likely others will be to buy your van. If there are several previous owners, questions start to be asked about why the van has changed hands so frequently. It's also more likely that the van will have poorer quality or missing service history.

Higher mileage

Having higher mileage than most similar models of its age also lowers your van's value. It's worth bearing this in mind before it happens. If this is unavoidable, be sure to look after the van's repairs, and keep the service history up to date and complete.

Increased age

If your van is an older model, it will usually be less desirable than the newest and improved models available on the market. There are some exceptions to this, perhaps they have desirable qualities that have been replaced within the newer model. However, this is the general rule.

Patchy service history

Missing or inconsistent service history doesn't paint a reliable picture of a well-looked-after van. Keep this in mind when buying any van, as it will impact the resale value. If it's something you can rectify, such as contacting your local garage for a receipt from some previous work on the van, it's worth doing.

Conditions of the van valuation

  • You must have been the registered owner of the vehicle for a minimum of six months and be able to provide us with the V5c logbook
  • Currently we are unable to provide valuations for vehicles over 50,000 miles
  • Your van must have a valid MOT certificate on the day of hand-over
  • Your van is not an import and was first registered in the UK (mainland)
  • Your van has not been used as a taxi or by a driving school
  • Your van has not been in a major accident and has never been an insurance write-off
  • Your van has 2 sets of keys
  • Where applicable the SatNav memory or Sim Card must be in the van
  • Vehicle must have a spare wheel with a legal tyre or where applicable a tyre inflation kit
  • All interior fixings are included in the van, the van specification is the original factory-finish and there is no serious degradation to the ply lining (if applicable)
  • The valuation is valid for seven days and is based on the mileage and condition described

Should your vehicle not match the description and mileage, we reserve the right to change your valuation.

Who will I be dealing with?

Vansdirect is part of the Vertu Motors Group. Your initial enquiry will be through Vansdirect and will be passed to the van-buying team at Vertu Vehicle Solutions (VVS), part of the Vertu Motors Group.

They will then arrange your valuation and appointment to complete the sale of your van.

Frequently asked questions

Will you take my van in part exchange as part of a new van deal?

No. We don't take vans in part exchange. This is a stand-alone service where we provide a facility for you to sell your van.

Do you offer valuations for any type of van?

There may be occasions where we won't offer a valuation for example if your van has been highly modified beyond its original factory finish or if it is a highly specialist vehicle. We will let you know straight away if this is the case.

What will I need to value and sell my van?

For your valuation, you will need to complete the online form

We will request further information from you if you proceed to make an appointment after your valuation.

What will affect the value of my van?

There are quite a few things that can have an impact on the valuation of your van - the overall condition, service history, any optional extras, the number of previous owners... and even the colour!

How is my van valued?

We use the vehicle information you provide us with to value your van, along with our own expectations of the vehicle.

Are there any fees or administration costs?

No. Regardless of the value of your van, there are no other charges or fees if you decide to sell to us.

How long is my van valuation valid for?

Our valuations are valid for up to 7 days. We know it's not a quick decision to decide to sell your van and we understand that you might want some time to think about things. While we're confident that you're getting a great price from us, there is absolutely no pressure to accept straight away.

What if I don't meet the conditions of the valuation criteria?

Unfortunately, we won't be able to offer you a valuation.

Will you still buy my van if there is any outstanding finance on it?

Yes, of course!

All you need to do is contact your finance company to request a valid settlement letter and bring this with you to your appointment. Whatever the outstanding balance is, we will settle it for you and deduct it from the payment we give you for your van.

If you owe more finance than the value of your van, we will still happily purchase the vehicle from you - you will just need to pay us the shortfall.

Important note: Do not cancel your direct debit until we have received your van and confirmed that all finance has been paid. If you do cancel the direct debit early, you may risk owing a payment which you will be obliged to pay.

What you will need for your appointment

For the vehicle inspection you will need:

  • Your driving licence
  • A bank statement - addressed to your name and current home address dated within 3 months
  • Vehicle Registration V5 Document
  • The service history records
  • Valid finance settlement letter - showing final settlement figure and finance company bank details (if applicable)
  • All keys - including spares
  • Any accessories related to the use of the vehicle i.e. user manual, locking wheel nut key, memory cards etc

How long will my appointment last?

Your appointment will last between 30-60 minutes.

Are there any fees or administration costs?

No. Regardless of the value of your van, there are no other charges or fees if you decide to sell to us.

Shall I cancel my direct debit to my finance company prior to my appointment to sell my van?

It is important that you do not cancel your direct debit until we have received your van and confirmed that all finance has been paid. If you do cancel the direct debit early, you may risk owing a payment which you will be obliged to pay.

Do you buy vans in any condition?

No. Vans need to be mechanically sound and in a reasonable condition for their age.

Do you accept non-runners?

No, we do not accept non-runners. The vehicle must be able to start up properly.

Will you buy my van if it has private registrations?

Yes, however the private registrations will need to be removed prior to sale.

Do you accept video valuations?

Unfortunately, we do not accept video valuations. You will need to bring your vehicle to your local partner dealership so we can carry out the valuation in person.

When will I receive payment for my van?

The payment will be made at the appointment if you decide you do want to sell your van. Payment will be made via a BACS transfer and will take around 3-5 working days to appear in your bank account.

Do you buy cars?

No. However Vertu Motors do buy cars if you have one for sale
