Kia PV7 Cargo Debuts with 285-mile Range, up to 1200kg Payload
The second instalment of Kia’s much vaunted Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) commercial line-up has been revealed with the Kia PV7 Cargo arriving as a big brother to the acclaimed Kia PV5 van.
Unveiled at the IAA Transportation 2026 event in Hanover, the new electric van – which will straddle both the L1 and L2 medium van sectors - was unveiled with two variants of the Kia PV7 Cargo van starring alongside a nine-seat Kia PV7 Passenger version.
The PV7 arrives on a height of expectation following the successful introduction of the PV5 little more than a year ago.
Heralding Kia’s ambitious attempt to break into the commercial vehicle market with an unconventional electric model, the PV5 Cargo has nonetheless been met with widespread praise, while sales figures have been encouraging too.
It’s momentum Kia is hoping to continue with the PV7, which boasts more space, higher payload and longer electric range than the PV5. That pitches the PV7 up against the likes of the Ford E-Transit Custom, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo and the all-new Renault Trafic E-Tech
Kia PV7 Cargo: Load Space, Payload and EV Range
Load capacity figures for the PV7 Cargo Long and PV7 Cargo High Roof sees the former match the Ford Transit Custom L1 with its generous 6.1 cubic metres of load space, while the latter goes all the way up to 8.0 cubic metres.
Payload capacity is rated at 1,165kg for the PV7 Cargo Long and up to 1,200kg for the standard length, while the PV7 Cargo – like the PV5 – benefits from a low load height to both improve accessibility and allow up to three Euro pallets to be transported.
With larger dimensions comes larger batteries under the skin, the PV7 Cargo offering the choice of either a 71.5kWh battery that can be found in the PV5, or a 96.2kWh unit.
Generating almost 270bhp and 420Nm of torque, Kia says the long range 96.2kWh battery offers up to 285-miles of range, which betters the VW ID. Buzz Cargo and should see it match up to the new Renault Trafic E-Tech.
Kia PV7 Cargo: Design, Specification, Practical Touches
Having successfully caught attention with the daring design of the PV5, it’s no surprise to see Kia adopt a similar approach for the PV7 Cargo.
As such, there is no mistaking the two models are related, though – size difference notwithstanding – the PV7 does get a smattering of unique detailing, including more shapely LED headlights, fresh wheel trims and an alternative rear light signature.
Inside the PV7 Cargo resembles the PV5’s dashboard design, while Kia has confirmed it will be available with the choice of either two or three seats up front.
The PV7 Cargo becomes the latest Kia model to have Pleos Connect integrated with the aim of providing a smartphone-like in-vehicle experience through navigation, AI voice powered assistant, communication and over-the-air updates, while V2L (Vehicle to Load) is also included.
On the ground, the PV7 Cargo will have the choice of a full-open twin-swing tailgate and a conventional tailgate, plus a Smart Walk Away function that automatically closes and locks the side door and a load-through bulkhead too.
The Kia PV7 Cargo is set to go on sale in the UK in early 2027, before Kia’s PBV line-up is completed by the range-topping Kia PV9 Cargo large van the following year.
