2026 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo: Everything You Need To Know
A van is just a van, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be, just ask the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo.
The German manufacturer’s retro-inspired throwback to the 1960-1970s has become something of a talisman for the new wave of electric models hitting the roads today.
A way of throwing back to the past while remaining thoroughly modern underneath that retro-flavoured skin, the VW ID.Buzz has, well, created a lot of buzz since it was launched in 2022.
Better still, while the passenger model has captured the imagination of many families, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo allows commercial customers to get in on the excitement too as an eye-catching conversation piece that is guaranteed to make your business name pop on the side.

The Real Successor to the Volkswagen Transporter
You don’t need to be an expert in cars to immediately recognise where the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo draws its inspiration from.
From the clam-shell roofline to the big bold ‘VW’ badge on the front to the two-tone colour options, the ID.Buzz Cargo pays special homage to the first and second-generation Volkswagen Transporter.
As well as being true enduring style icons of their time, these models were hugely successful for Volkswagen during their production run (between 1950 and 1979), generating millions of sales that contribute to the Transporter being the best-selling van of all-time.
Today, the Transporter line – now in its seventh generation - has evolved with the times, eschewing form for functionality to suit the average van driver’s needs.
So, while it shares the name with its esteemed predecessor, it is the ID.Buzz Cargo that is arguably the true spiritual successor for the original Transporter.
While it does admittedly sacrifice some practicality in favour of styling flair – compared with the new T7 Transporter anyway – there is something to be said for promoting your business on a van that looks like nothing else on the road right now.

Volkswagen will freely admit the ID.Buzz Cargo is not being pitched as the most spacious and practical van in its class – it isn’t even the most spacious and practical van in its own range.
Indeed, the Transporter fulfils the brief as the medium van Volkswagen you need if your business involves carrying sizeable quantities and heavy loads on a regular basis.
Ultimately, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo doesn’t need to match the Transporter for spaciousness, instead appealing to customers who are hoping a jazzy aesthetic will market their business and its native electric-based platform reduces their running costs.
That’s not to say the ID.Buzz Cargo lacks interior room, however, offering similar levels of cargo space and having similar dimensions to most extended length/wheelbase small vans, such as the Citroen Berlingo XL and Ford Transit Connect LWB.
Just one length is offered measuring 4712mm for a wheelbase of 2989mm, while height measures a lofty 1937mm. The cargo bay can be accessed from the choice of either a single lifted tailgate or with 50:50 wing doors.
It’s worth noting that the electric platform means the ID.Buzz Cargo has a very short overhang, while wheels at each corner offer up a spacious cargo area with a wide 756mm side sliding door.
Total cargo space measures 3.9 cubic metres, while the load length at the floor stretches to 2208mm, or 2232mm with winged tailgate doors. The ID.Buzz can accommodate two Euro pallets.
In terms of payload, the lower-powered 59kWh Commerce trim offers the most generous capacity of 712kg, though the 79kWh Commerce manages a similar 707kg. All versions of the ID.Buzz Cargo have a payload capacity range of 607-712kg.
For towing, all versions of the ID.Buzz Cargo can tow at least 1000kg, while the four-wheel drive 79kWh 4MOTION has a braked towing capacity of 1800kg.

The 59kWh battery, introduced in 2025, features a 168bhp rear-mounted electric motor that allows the ID.Buzz Cargo to achieve a range of 201 miles. It is aimed at last-mile deliveries for shorter routes, ideal for city-based businesses.
The larger 79kWh battery capacity is available with either rear-wheel drive or as a four-wheel drive 4MOTION version.
The RWD model offers a sizeable 286bhp, making it more powerful than most vans in the medium sector, while the 4MOTION is more powerful still generating 340bhp. The former achieves 277 miles of range, while the latter can go for between 258 and 261 miles.
Charging from 5% to 80% can be achieved in approximately 30mins using a 185kW DC fast charger.

Though commercial vehicles aren’t crash-tested like passenger cars, it is worth noting that the sister passenger version of the ID.Buzz also achieved five-stars in full crash-testing scenarios.
