Isuzu D-Max Gains All-New 2.2-litre Turbodiesel Engine
The Isuzu D-Max has been retooled for 2026 with the arrival of a new 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine to replace the erstwhile 1.9-litre powerplant.
The larger unit has been developed to deliver greater efficiency and more pulling power as part of changes designed to keep the D-Max competitive against a slew of updated rivals arriving in the next few months.
While power output remains almost unchanged at 162bhp, the D-Max 2.2-litre now produces a maximum of 400Nm of torque to strengthen its off-road performance or when towing.
As the only pick-up truck on sale in the UK available with a full house of body styles – Single Cab, Extended Cab and Double Cab – the new engine will replace the outgoing unit across the entire range.
To coincide with the launch of the 2.2-litre turbodiesel, the D-Max has also been given a light makeover with a redesigned grille up front, while certain grades get grey LED headlight accent colours and updated fog lamp bezels.
Elsewhere, the DL40 and V-Cross trims get new sidesteps, while Urban Moss metallic paint joins the colour options.
Revealed at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, the revised Isuzu D-Max 2.2-litre turbodiesel shares the manufacturer’s stand with the Isuzu D-Max EV.
The electric pick-up truck was first unveiled 12 months ago at the same show, but returns in 2026 ready to go on sale boasting 163-miles of range, plus-one tonne payload and 3.5-tonnes of towing capacity.
