First Glimpse of 2026 Volkswagen Caddy Cargo, ID.Buzz Long Confirmed

First Glimpse of 2026 Volkswagen Caddy Cargo, ID.Buzz Long Confirmed

Volkswagen has offered up a first look at the revised Volkswagen Caddy Cargo as it confirmed the small van will undergo an update in 2026.

Revealed in tandem with Volkswagen Commercial announcing its financial results for the year 2025, the Caddy Cargo will be one of a handful of new releases aimed at maintaining the German marque’s market share.

Announcing that sales rose to 428,000 commercial vehicles last year, Volkswagen declared itself satisfied with the performance against a tide of negative factors.

However, while VW highlighted the success of the neo-retro Volkswagen ID.Buzz – both the passenger-carrying version and the Cargo, which have combined totals – it also conceded that ‘development of the Volkswagen Transporter family was weaker’ than hoped.

That last line is significant as the much-anticipated seventh generation Volkswagen Transporter – which is based on the Ford Transit Custom - was launched to great fanfare at the start of 2025, though the firm says its staggered rollout across other markets impacted its bottom line.

Nevertheless, Volkswagen says it is confident of a stronger performance in 2026 as it launches new trim lines – including the recently added Sportline and Commerce Pro S – as well as a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) to go alongside diesel and full electric models.

The expansion of the Transporter range won’t be the only new update for Volkswagen’s commercial range.

The VW Caddy Cargo will be refreshed for 2026, five years on from the latest generation first hitting the road.

Volkswagen teased as much with a front-end sketch that ultimately reveals very little of what to expect, other than the exterior design will remain largely unchanged.

However, Volkswagen does say the new Caddy will be ‘launched with a refreshed, confident exterior and optimised interior solutions’.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo Long Confirmed

A longer wheelbase version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo is also on the way in an effort to strengthen the model’s appeal as a practical and flexible commercial vehicle.

With its retro-infused styling inspired by the iconic Volkswagen Bus (aka. the Campervan), the ID.Buzz Cargo has developed a loyal following from those who want to give their business some head-turning aesthetic appeal.

However, next to the Transporter, it is comparatively limited in terms of size (3.9 cubic metres load space) and payload (607-785kg). It is hoped the Long version (L2) will put the ID.Buzz Cargo closer in range to at least L1 equivalent vans.

There is also an update for the Volkswagen Crafter with a three-way tipper and a box body being added to the large van range.
