Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid PHEV Joins Diesel, EV Power Options
The Volkswagen Transporter mid-size van is now offered with a full house of powertrain options following the addition of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version alongside existing diesel and electric variants.
Bringing the model into line with its sister Ford Transit Custom line-up – which has offered diesel, PHEV and EV powertrains for some time already – it brings added commercial flexibility to the Transporter line-up.
Referred to as the Volkswagen Transporter eHybrid, the model comprises a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with an 11.8kWh battery, which together delivers 232PS of combined power through a CVT transmission.
Depending on the body style, pure electric range of 35-miles if possible, while the battery can be recharged using a 3.7kW AC charger in just 4.5-hours.
The Transporter eHybrid comes as the demand for lower emission vans continues to grow in a marketplace where fuel price pressures and the cost of living has had far reaching consequences.
As well as the standard Panel Van, the Transporter eHybrid can also be had in Kombi and Shuttle derivatives, with the latter emitting less than 95g/km of combined CO2 (WLTP).
