New Volkswagen Crafter - Winner of multiple new van awards!
Just over a year on from being crowned International Van of Year 2017, the New Volkswagen Crafter has won another prestigious new van award, this time in the form of WhatVan's LCV of the Year award.
WhatVan? Has lauded the new Volkswagen Crafter as the "most significant model to come to market in the last 12 months." The LCV experts also believe that the Crafter gives Volkswagen vans "the chance to make its mark in the large van sector where it has historically punched below its weight and not matched its performance in the light van sector, with the Caddy and in the medium van sector with the Transporter."
The previous model of the Crafter was based on the popular Mercedes Sprinter van and it could be argued that the Crafter was in the shadow of the large Mercedes van for some time, however with the new Crafter Volkswagen have taken production back in house, what has resulted is a phenomenal large van. The new Crafter has a more modern exterior design resonant of the Volkswagen Transporter, with a front end that upsurges in a straight line, the famous Volkswagen vans front grille (scaled up from Caddy and Transporter models) and sharp lines which define the bonnet of the new van.
New Volkswagen Crafter - more models available
The previous model of the Crafter was only available in rear-wheel drive, the new model has more options in the form of front, rear and all-wheel drive options. The new van aims to cover all options with a choice of three wheelbases and three roof-heights available, the new van is also available in single cab and double cab models.
Volkswagen vans have developed a 2.0-litre Euro 6 compliant engine specifically for the new Volkswagen Crafter van, with four outputs ranging from 102ps to 177ps. Another change for the new Crafter is the addition of the option of an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volkswagen vans claim that the new van is available with 69 different body/drive derivatives and have outlined the wide range of conversions available with both single-cab and double-cab chassis cab models.

The Iveco Daily is forced to settle for second place in this year's awards after winning the award for three years running, however the Iveco Daily remains an incredibly practical and functional new van, so much so that it was named International Van of the Year 2017!
