The smallest new van segment of all has been dominated by Ford vans over the past few years, cemented by Ford Transit Courier now winning What Van? Small van of the Year 2018!
In a segment that is becoming less competitive, Ford vans have always stood out, with the Ford Transit Courier taking the mantle from the outgoing Fiesta van. The Ford Transit Courier is now the dominant force in a segment which has lost both the small vans from PSA pairing Peugeot vans and Citroen vans over the past 12 months, with both the Bipper and Nemo vans being discontinued.
In terms of rivals for the Ford Transit Courier, the only like for like rivals remaining are small vans from Fiat vans and Vauxhall vans in the form of the Fiorino and long-term arch rival to Ford vans in this segment, the Corsavan. Lack of competition however may be attributed to the success of the Transit Courier, with the small van simply blowing its rivals out of the water since its introduction into the market in 2014. Early signs that the new van would impress in the market came from What Van? Naming the Courier van of the Year in 2015, its popularity and dominance has grown ever since.
In terms of the van it has replaced, the Fiesta van, the Transit Courier offers enhanced carrying capabilities with 2.3 cubic metres of load volume and a payload of 660kg. The Courier also provides a similar, comfortable car like drive to the outgoing Fiesta with far larger load capacities. In a strong year for the Ford Transit Courier van, Ford vans also released a Transit Courier Sport model in May to stand out from the crowd and relay the point that the Transit Courier is a nippy and exciting small van to drive.
Specification levels of the Transit Courier are impressive whichever of the models you opt for, with the selection from: Base, Trend and Sport models.
