Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial Is A Van That Can Go Anywhere
The humble van is about to become a whole lot tougher thanks to the launch of the converted Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial.
Based on the latest generation Land Cruiser off-roader, the new commercial version continues Toyota’s time-honoured trend of converting its formidable all-terrain 4x4 model into an all-conquering two-seat van.
One of the longest-serving nameplates in automotive history, the Land Cruiser has been a symbol of rugged, go-anywhere ability for more than 70 years now.
It’s this unstoppable nature that has therefore made it a popular commercial vehicle in the past too, allowing drivers to take their cargo further into what would otherwise be unchartered territory for your standard van.
As such, Toyota has gone ahead and given the latest iteration of its top-of-the-range off-roader the commercial vehicle treatment as a rival to the Land Rover Defender Hard Top 110.
Based on the five-door, long wheelbase version of the standard passenger model, the Land Cruiser Commercial sacrifices its rear seats in favour of a vast load area measuring up to 2000 litres.
With a bulkhead separating the two-seat cabin from the cargo bay, the Land Cruiser Commercial comes with a hard-wearing edge-to-edge floor tray and opens up to measurements of 1090mm high, 1685mm long and 1286mm wide.
Under the bonnet is a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine producing 204bhp and generating a mammoth 3500Nm of torque between 1600 and 2800rpm. It is this pulling power that allows it to tow up to 3500kg.
Moreover, it benefits from an eight-speed automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive and selectable drive modes to suit the road conditions. Off-road you’ll enjoy Crawl Control, Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control.
The Land Cruiser Commercial also features a high-specification, as demonstrated by its 18-inch alloy wheels, power seats, heated front seats, powered rear door, dual-zone air-conditioning and nine-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
