New KGM Musso Pick-Up Teased as Diesel Rival to Ford Ranger

A brand-new diesel-powered KGM Musso is on the way in 2026 after the Korean firm shared a brief shadowy look at what will be its next double cab pick-up truck offering.
As it stands, KGM – formerly known as SsangYong – has a single offering in the pick-up truck class in the current generation Musso, which it offers alongside a line-up of passenger SUVs.
From 2026, however, KGM is set to double its flat bed range with a new diesel-powered Musso set to be sold alongside an already-revealed electric version.
It understood KGM is planning to spin the ‘Musso’ nameplate into its own commercial brand, thus the moniker will likely adorn both this new model – which will be a direct replacement for the current Musso – and the forthcoming EV.
For now, KGM is keeping hush about the finer details of its new pick-up truck beyond sharing a moody teaser image that shows only its chunky silhouette and some of its design features.
However, a bit of post-edit image brightening does helpfully reveal more of what to expect.
From the front, KGM’s signature ‘tooth’ grille is flanked by a pair of squared-off headlights, while the nose is adorned by some suitably rugged body-mouldings.
In profile, the ‘Musso’ appears to lean towards a more traditional pick-up truck format compared with the Musso EV, which by contrast has a relatively compact flat bed.
This would suggest the new Musso is being pitched as a direct rival to the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux to exist in the more heavy-duty plus-1000kg payload segment.
What KGM has revealed, however, is that this model will be powered by a conventional diesel-fuelled engine. For now though, it is unclear whether it will retain the current torquey 2.2-litre units of the current model or whether it will also sit on a separate ladder frame chassis.
The confirmation of a direct successor to the current Musso comes as KGM mulls whether to import its new electric Musso EV [pictured below] to the UK.
The model, which is on sale in Korea, is set to ‘screen tested’ at the SUPBIKER event in the Lake District to get direct feedback from potential customers.
The model – which can achieve up to 290-miles of range according to the manufacturer - is being pitched towards the lifestyle end of the pick-up truck market, unlike the current KGM Musso which has earned a loyal following for its off-road and towing abilities.
