Kia PV7 Cargo Electric Van Teased Ahead of Imminent Reveal

Kia PV7 Cargo Electric Van Teased Ahead of Imminent Reveal

The first images of the all-new Kia PV7 Cargo electric van have been released to drum up anticipation ahead of the model’s official unveiling later this month.

The PV7 Cargo arrives just a year on from the Kia PV5, which heralded the Korean giant’s high profile move into light commercial vehicle sector to take on esteemed heavyweights as Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.

With that model going on to become a critical and sales success upon release, Kia will now build on its line-up with the larger PV7, which – at 5.2m in length - will go head-to-head with the long wheelbase versions of the Ford E-Transit Custom (L2) and Citroen Dispatch (XL).

While Kia isn’t giving too much away about how the PV7 will look prior to its launch at the upcoming IAA Transportation show in Hannover later this month, the teaser images suggest the finished product will bear close resemblance to the PV5.

This isn’t surprising given that the Kia PV5has certainly caught a lot of attention on the road since its unveiling, but also because the PV7 is built on the same scalable Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) architecture as its sibling.

The PV7 will be revealed in both Cargo (van) and Passenger (seven-seat) layouts at the show, where the finer details of load space and payload capacity will also be confirmed.

Like the PV5 – which is most comparable to long wheelbase small vans - the PV7 Cargo’s dimensions mean it isn’t positioned in a specific category, such as medium or large van.

However, with its short front overhang courtesy of how the battery is positioned under the floor, the PV7 is expected to have competitive load space versus other electric vans.

It isn’t known yet what will power the PV7 Cargo but expect a larger battery than that what is currently found in the PV5 (71.2kWh).

The roll out of new Kia vans won't stop with the PV7 either, with next year set to herald the launch of an even larger variation, the PV9 Cargo.
