Iveco Group Agrees Terms to Be Acquired by Tata Motors
The Iveco Group is to be acquired by Tata Motors after agreeing terms of a £3.3bn sale to the Indian conglomerate.
The Italian company – which specialises in heavy-goods vehicles but also features a range of light commercial vehicles – will retain its headquarters in Turin as the deal is dependent on a commitment to maintain the group’s employee and industrial base.
The deal is significant as it gives one of the world’s largest companies a bigger footprint in the European commercial vehicle industry, while expanding Iveco’s global presence too.
The agreement is expected to be completed in early 2026 and has been made possible by Iveco’s IDV defence business interests being sold to a third-party.
As a result of the deal, the Iveco Group – which also includes its bus company – will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata.
The agreement comes as Iveco seeks to expand its offerings in the light commercial vehicle sector beyond the long-serving Iveco Daily.
Designed with a ladder frame chassis and offered in GVWs as high as 7-tonnes, the Iveco Daily is well-known for being a heavy-duty van first and foremost.
As such, Iveco has recently announced two new models – the Iveco eJolly and Iveco eSuperJolly - that serve to reduce the company’s overall carbon footprint and offer a more convenient route into Iveco van ownership.
These models – which will be offered only in electric guise – are based on the same platform as Stellantis’ Medium and Large van offerings that are badged Citroen, FIAT, Peugeot, Toyota and Vauxhall already.
The Iveco eJolly and Iveco eSuperJolly are expected to be added to the firm’s UK ranges next year.
For Tata Motors, the Iveco Group will be its largest automotive acquisition since taking the reins of Jaguar Land Rover in 2008.
The Tata Group is one of the world’s largest conglomerates with interests in the automotive, steel, energy, aerospace, construction, retail, financial and the travel industry.
As of August 2024, the Tata Group was worth approximately $403bn.
