2026 Ford E-Transit Custom Gets Bigger Battery, More Range, Quicker Recharge
The electric Ford E-Transit Custom is to get a larger battery for 2026, which the manufacturer says will increase range by 10 per cent, while also cutting downtime with faster recharging.
The electric version of the UK’s most popular van is currently available with a 64kWh battery tuned to offer three different power outputs – 134bhp, 215bhp and 287bhp – with the former of these achieving the best range of around 203 miles.
For 2026, however, Ford will swap the 64kWh in favour of a larger 71kWh battery as a means of improving the E-Transit Custom’s range figures.
According to Ford, the 71kWh battery – which will go into production in early 2026 – will improve range to 232 miles.
This brings the E-Transit Custom into line with its Stellantis rivals, including the Citroen e-Dispatch and Vauxhall Vivaro Electric, which quote 231 miles of range. It also compares more competitively with the raft of incoming dedicated EV vans, such as the Kia PV5 (258 miles) and Farizon SV (234 miles).

Perhaps more significantly, Ford is also quoting a faster recharge time for the larger battery, with vans built from early 2026 capable of being charged from 10-80 per cent in just 29 minutes using a 125kW DC faster charger.
Not only that, those who currently run a Ford E-Transit Custom with a 64kWh battery will receive an OTA (over-the-air) software update that will enable DC fast charging upgrades too.
Owners will see the 10-80 per cent recharge time improve to ‘about 25 minutes’, which is 14 minutes faster than it currently is.
The Ford E-Transit Custom is available in multiple body styles, including panel van (L1 and L2), Double-Cab-In-Van, Kombi and MultiCab versions. The Ford E-Transit Custom is also now available with all-wheel drive under the Trail trim level.
