WhatVan? Awards 2020 - All the award winning new vans
It's the time of the year where some of the biggest names of the new van world head to London for the prestigious WhatVan? Awards. Vansdirect takes a look at all of the winners at the WhatVan? Awards 2020!
Here are the WhatVan? 2020 Award winning new vans!
Green Manufacturer of the Year - Ford vans
Winning the green award for 2020 are pioneers in emissions cutting technology, Ford vans. Pure electric vans continue to improve and look to be the long term solution to air quality issues, however there are still problems which remain in overcoming the potential issues of range and charging infrastructure.
Ford vans have come up with a solution to these issues in the form of a plug-in hybrid version of the UK's best-selling new van, the new Ford Transit Custom! The new Ford Transit Custom PHEV combines a petrol motor with a battery and can end range anxiety with the ability to travel large distances intercity but switch to zero emissions in towns and cities. Accompanying the PHEV in the range is a mild hybrid (MHEV) Ecoblue Transit Custom van, with both new Ford vans claiming International Van of the Year 2020!
Pickup Truck of the Year - Isuzu D-Max
Three wins in a row for the Isuzu D-Max pickup which continues to impress the judges by offering a full range of pickup truck bodystyles including single, extended and double cab pickups, whilst many other pickup trucks have gone exclusively for the double cab bodystyle with an eye on the lifestyle market.
The Isuzu D-Max is a fantastic workaholic without compromising luxury, the judges were also impressed with the way that the range has evolved, with a number of modifications over the last year which have helped Isuzu target the high end of the pickup truck market. Highly commended in the pickup market was the Ssangyong Musso.
Medium Van of the Year - VW Transporter
The medium vans segment is the biggest in the UK new van market and with the majority of manufacturers having an entry in this market it is only of the most keenly fought over awards on offer.
The new VW Transporter fought off some stiff competition to pick up the prize with the judges incredibly impressed by the latest facelift to the range, the VW Transporter T6.1 which gets a completely refreshed dashboard alongside a host of the latest VW vans technology featuring. Highly commended in the medium vans market was the new Ford Transit Custom van.
Light Van of the Year - Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Vauxhall Combo, Toyota Proace City
The light van of the year prize goes to a quartet of new vans which despite having stylistic differences between them, all share the same platform. The International Van of the Year 2019 winning trio, the new Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo are now joined by the Toyota Proace City in the small vans market.
Regardless of which of the brands that you opt for you are guaranteed a highly efficient compact van which is well designed and well-built with a host of the latest technology to assist you with the jobs at hand. There are two wheelbases available and a number of different specifications depending on your requirements. Highly commended in the light vans market is the Ford Transit Connect Sport.
Small Van of the Year - Ford Transit Courier
The Ford Transit Courier has claimed the small van award for the third consecutive year and whilst there isn't an abundance of competition in this segment of the market, this should not take away from the Transit Courier which is an excellent van in its own right.
The new Ford Transit Courier stays at the top of the small van tree, with an excellent driving experience and surprisingly generous load volumes. The judges view the closest competition for the Courier in this segment to be in house from Ford vans in the form of the Ford Fiesta van, with the Courier offering a load volume of more than double the Ford Fiesta van which took the highly commended spot in the small vans market.
Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year - Renault Master and Vauxhall Movano
Perhaps a surprising result in the biggest award of them all, the Renault Master and Vauxhall Movano took both the Large Van of the Year and overall Light Commercial Vehicle Year awards. The new Renault Master and Vauxhall Movano vans could well be described as the unsung heroes of the UK large vans market. The latest Vauxhall Movano will be the last model built alongside the Renault Master with the next generation model set to be built alongside the Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Relay vans.
Both the new Vauxhall Movano and new Renault Master vans have been heavily facelifted this year and have scooped the WhatVan? LCV of the Year prize for the second time, having previously won the award in 2011. Both new vans feature new front ends as well as significant changes in the cabin with revised dashboards and instrument panels, fully integrated touchscreens and increased storage up to 105 litres. Highly commended in the large vans market was the Fiat Ducato van.
