Announced at the recent IAA Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover, the 2019 International Van of the Year 2019 prize has been claimed by the Citroen Berlingo, Vauxhall Combo and Peugeot Partner small vans!

International Van of the Year 2019

New Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo

The jury consisting of specialist industry journalists from no fewer than 25 European countries put the PSA trio ahead of the all-new Mercedes Sprinter in second place. The jury reserved particular praise for the economy, handling and innovative assistance systems of the three new small vans. A spokesperson from the jury commented:

"The engineers and designers succeeded for the first time in the history of LCVs to create a multi-brand cooperation van, where all brands maintain their core values and brand personality without almost any compromise. These vans are redefining the entire segment of modern compact vans, with a fresh approach in design, fit and finish on par with compact cars and a unique feeling of comfort."

The three small vans were developed as part of a joint venture between Citroen vans, Peugeot vans and Vauxhall vans, with the new vans due to join the UK market at the end of 2018. Payloads on the new vans will range between 650kg and 1000kg with load volumes up to 4.4 cubic metres. All new vans will have the capability of carrying three adults in the front and feature an overload indicator that will alert the driver when they get near or exceed the weight limit of the van.

Across the range there will be two diesel engines and a solitary petrol option. The 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine continues from the previous Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner models delivering 75ps or 100ps hooked to a five-speed manual transmission. An all-new 1.5-litre 130ps diesel engine receives a six-speed manual or EAT8 automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre petrol engine will be available with 110ps or 130ps.

The PSA group from France which owns Peugeot vans and Citroen vans bought Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors in 2017 with the deal making PSA Europe's second largest manufacturer of vehicles behind Volkswagen Group.
