Stellantis has expanded its multi-brand Luton Van range with the addition of an electric powertrain option for the first time.
The automotive giant – which manufacturers small, medium and large vans for Citroen, FIAT, Peugeot and Vauxhall/Opel – has been proactive in expanding its battery-equipped portfolio with each commercial vehicle now available with the choice of either diesel or electric power.
However, this will now also extend to Luton Box conversions of Stellantis’ largest vans for the first time.
Set to be constructed in Italy, Stellantis revealed a Luton Box conversion of the FIAT Ducato as the first model to roll off the production line, but the BEV Luton Box range will extend to the Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer and Vauxhall/Opel Movano too.
The Luton Van BEV is based on the electric chassis cab, which features a 110kWh battery which generates 270bhp and 410Nm of torque. Stellantis quotes a range of just over 200 miles in Luton Box guise.
One recent advancement for the electric range, however, has been an increase to 22kW AC charging solution, up from the previous 11kW. By doubling the charge rate, it has reduced the time to recharge to six hours.
Two sizes of the Luton Van will be available – the standard L3 and a larger L4 variant.
The L3 is 4230mm in length, 2032mm in width and 2150mm in height, which combines for a 18.3 cubic metre load capacity. The L4 increases the length to 4400mm and 2300mm in height for 20.5 cubic metres.
Once the internal storage above the cab is taken into account, this increases to 21 and 22 cubic metres respectively.
Anne Abboud, head of Stellantis Pro One division, said: “The launch of the Cargo Box BEV confirms the outstanding journey of this plant dedicated to proactively and quickly meeting the needs of our professional clients, according to the principles of efficiency, maximum quality and time to market. Stellantis Pro One’s offering is unmatched in terms of range breadth and flexibility.”
