Stellantis Gives Major Boost For Ellsemere Port UK Van Manufacturing
Stellantis has given the clearest indication yet that it is committed to manufacturing in the UK with the opening of a major new parts distribution centre in Ellsemere Port.
The automotive giant – which owns Vauxhall, Peugeot, FIAT, Jeep and Citroen – has been under the spotlight in recent months following its decision to close one of its factories in Luton at the loss of over a thousand jobs.
Reasoning the closure of the plant – formerly owned by Vauxhall - for the strict conditions of the ZEV Mandate set out by the government, though Stellantis continues to have a presence in the UK with the Ellesmere Port factory it also inherited from Vauxhall, it has made noises about dropping out of the UK manufacturing industry altogether.
However, these fears appear to have been quashed by Stellantis’ move to build a vast new distribution centre alongside the existing Ellesmere Port factory to supply parts for its many brands across the UK and Ireland.
Set to stock around four million parts per year for many models up to 10-years old, including its large commercial vehicle range, the new Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) will cover 60,000 square metres.
Despite its size, the centre has set a standard for construction by being awarded the UK’s first BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) accreditation for a warehouse. This considers how a building is constructed, what materials are used and how sustainable its operation will be.
Diane Miller, Stellantis UK Parts Distribution Centre Manager, said:“The opening of our new UK Parts Distribution Centre enables us to enhance our aftersales service.
“Its central location offers improved UK coverage and delivery times, with the ability to deliver parts to repairers for the next working day – ensuring the shortest possible wait time for customers.
“With all our brands under one roof, from long-established names like Vauxhall to newer brands like Leapmotor, Stellantis customers benefit from the reassurance of knowing they can quickly access the parts they need.”
As it stands, Stellantis’ Ellesmere Port factory manufactures its electric small van range sold across five brands – the Vauxhall Combo Electric, Citroen e-Berlingo, the FIAT E-Doblo, Peugeot E-Partner and Toyota Proace City Electric.
