Kia PV5 Chassis Cab Revealed with Increased Payload, Load Space Potential
Kia has confirmed the latest variation of its new Kia PV5 electric van with the unveiling of a Chassis Cab that the firm says can handle multiple conversions.
The award-winning PV5 marks Kia’s first dedicated entry into the commercial vehicle market and has already found praise for its impressive range potential, high-tech interior, lengthy warranty and value-orientated pricing.
Currently, the PV5 is only available as a panel van with two battery options – 51.5kWh and 71.2lWh – but the Korean manufacturer has now confirmed a PV5 Chassis Cab and a PV5 Crew Van version will follow soon.
Developed around Kia’s all-new PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) running gear that it says can be adapted in multiple ways, the Chassis Cab is intended to take full advantage of the flexible platform.
Revealed at the Solutrans show in Lyon, the Kia PV5 Chassis Cab was presented in a Box van form, a body style rarely available for panel vans with relatively short dimensions.
The PV5 Box van can support more than a tonne of payload and increases load space capacity to 8.0 cubic metres.
The Chassis Cab itself is a dual-annular steel exoskeleton to strengthen its rigidity and crash protection.
Beyond the PV5, Kia is set to launched two more panel vans based on the same architecture – set to be named PV7 and PV9 - that will go up against the Ford E-Transit Custom and Ford E-Transit respectively.
