Isuzu D-Max Pick-Up Truck Hauls Away Top Towing Award

The Isuzu D-Max has been named as one of the big prize winners at the annual Caravan and Motorhome Club’s Best Towcar of the Year Awards.
The Japanese model came out top in the Best Pick-Up Truck category, where it fended off competition from the Toyota Hilux and the Maxus T60 MAX to lift the crown.
The model tested – the 1.9-litre TDI Steel Edition – was assessed in the 1700-1800kg caravan category and earned praise for its selectable four-wheel drive, which boosted its ability to start on steep hills, and overall stability that was better than its rivals.
While testers noted the Isuzu D-Max's 161bhp engine wasn’t the most powerful, it did deliver smoothly applied torque and benefited from having a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Pick-up trucks are often singled out for their towing ability with most models in the segment capable of hauling a 3500kg braked capacity.
The annual Caravan and Motorhome Club’s Towcar of the Year Awards took place at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire across four days of rigorous assessments to determine the various category winners.
A range of trials were conducted to judge how each model responded in high-speed towing, tackling steep gradients and demonstrated stability on demanding courses.
Each model was also loaded with ballast to 85 per cent of a model’s maximum payload weight to realistically replicate a typical car and caravan combination ready for a holiday.
