Ford Transit Custom Reigns As UK's Best-Selling Van in 2025
Ford strengthened its dominant position in the UK commercial vehicle sales charts after locking out the top three spots of 2025 in the end-of-year rankings.
The Ford Transit Custom was once again named the UK’s most popular van after shifting 49,774 units over the 12-month period, followed by the larger Ford Transit and the Ford Ranger pick-up truck, according to official figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT)
With almost 100,000 sales registered between the trio of Ford models alone, the final 2025 sales figures consolidate the manufacturer’s long-held status as the UK’s best-selling commercial brand.
Indeed, the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit emerged among the most popular vehicles outright – car and van – with both ranking inside the overall top ten for 2025.
Best of the rest was the enduringly popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in fourth position, marginally ahead of the Vauxhall Vivaro, which earned status as the most popular Stellantis-manufactured vans in fifth.
The Renault Trafic – which is due to be replaced in the coming months by an all-new electric model – remains a popular medium van choice in sixth, while the new-for-2025 Volkswagen Transporter and its Volkswagen Crafter sibling held seventh and eighth respectively.
Rounding out the top ten, the Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner were closely matched to earn status as the UK’s most popular small vans.

Electric Van Sales Reach All-Time High
While diesel remains the overwhelmingly popular choice for new vans, sales of electric vans enjoyed grew substantially in 2025 compared with the previous year.
A year-on-year increase of 36.2% means electric vans make up an 8.7% market share, up from 5.8% in 2024.
The rise in sales comes as the industry prepares for a bumper year of high-profile electric van launches, including the critically acclaimed Kia PV5, the next generation Renault Trafic and the yet-to-be-unveiled Mercedes-Benz Vito.
There will also be an influx of electric pick-up trucks, such as the Toyota Hilux EV, Isuzu D-Max EV and KGM Musso EV as the segment looks to negate the impact of the double cab tax change introduced in April 2025.
