Citroen Berlingo Is The UK's Most Popular Small Van
Ford continued to dominate the UK van sales charts in April 2025 as the Citroen Berlingo cemented its status as the nation’s most popular small commercial vehicle.
Sales figures revealed by the SMMT showed continued challenging conditions for the UK van market with a fifth consecutive month of decline overall in terms of year-on-year figures.
The figures are being impacted by slowing demand for large and mid-size vans with both volume categories suffering a turndown so far this year after four months compared to the same period in 2024.
However, there are more eye-catching sales results elsewhere, not least in the small van segment – classed as below 2.0-litre – enjoying a 46.6% increase year-on-year. This has been partly stimulated by the increased choice of BEVs (battery electric vehicles), which in turn enjoyed an 8.3% rise compared with April 2024 figures.
Top of the small van pile is the Citroen Berlingo, which consolidated its status as the best-selling SCV in 2025 so far by being the fourth best-selling commercial vehicle in April 2025. The only other SCVs inside the top ten were the Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo.
Overall, Ford continues to rule the roost in other categories with the top three best-sellers from April 2025 – the Ford Transit Custom, Ford Transit and Ford Ranger – topping their respective mid-size, large and pick-up truck segments yet again.
So far this year, the Ford Transit Custom has shifted 16,906 units, which is very nearly double that of the next best-selling van, the Ford Transit. Between the Transit Custom, Transit and Ranger, they account for 32% of total commercial vehicles sales in 2025 so far.
