2026 Volkswagen e-Transporter to Deliver More Range, Recharge Quicker
The 2026 Volkswagen e-Transporter will receive an upgrade to its electric powertrain that will significantly increase its range and cut down the time it takes for a full recharge.
The modifications – which will apply to all Volkswagen e-Transporter models going forward – reflect similar improvements already announced for its sister model, the top-selling Ford Transit Custom.
Until now, the pure electric e-Transporter – which debuted in 2025 as part of the seventh-generation line-up – had been available with a 64kWh battery that could be specified with either 134bhp or 215bhp power outputs.
The former of these battery options allowed the e-Transporter to achieve just over 200-miles of range and achieve a 10-80 per cent recharge in just under 40 minutes.
For 2026, however, the e-Transporter will gain a larger 70kWh battery that extends its range to 232-miles, bringing it into line with Stellantis’ quintet of electric medium van offerings, the Citroen e-Dispatch, FIAT E-Scudo, Peugeot E-Expert, Toyota Proace Electric and Vauxhall Vivaro Electric.
It is also a closer match for a new generation of electric vans emerging on the market, including the Kia PV5 (258-miles) and Farizon SV (234-miles).
Moreover, downtime will be significantly reduced by the revised battery now able to accommodate a 125kW DC rapid charger. It means 10-80% charges now taking half-an-hour, or a ten-minute stop will add another 60km to its range.
The Volkswagen e-Transporter stands apart as the German firm's sole all-electric commercial vehicle alongside the plug-in hybrid Caddy and the diesel-only Crafter.
