2025 Toyota Proace: Everything You Need To Know

Toyota might have had a thriving commercial arm almost as long as it has been importing models to the UK but its van line-up has never been as formidable as it is right now.
For many years, the Toyota Hiace satisfied demand for the Japanese manufacturer in the mid-size van segment where it enjoyed status as one of the few models in the class to be developed on its own platform.
However, this all changed in 2016 with the launch of the Toyota Proace, created in collaboration with PSA as its version of the Peugeot Expert and Citroen Dispatch.
Since then, two more models have been spun off from the same underpinnings – the Vauxhall Vivaro and FIAT Scudo – meaning the Proace has some stiff opposition within its own fold.
It has also been joined by the smaller Proace City and the larger Proace Max in Toyota’s range, the firm’s version of Stellantis’ other van platforms.
Which begs the question – why buy the Toyota Proace over four other similar models?
Why Should I Buy A Toyota Proace Over Its Stellantis Siblings?
From the outset, there is no discernible difference between the Toyota Proace and its siblings.
Externally there are minor stylistic differences on display. A recent mild facelift has seen the Proace get a nose-job, that being a smoother front fascia that looks smart, if a touch anonymous.
But inside you’d be hard-pressed to tell which model you were in if you covered up the badge on the steering wheel.
This is no bad thing since the Proace benefits from the same large cargo bay, frugal electric powertrain and versatile body style choices.
However, there is one discernible difference that makes the Proace far more attractive a buying proposition than its rivals – a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.
One of the most generous on sale anywhere in the commercial sector, the warranty is an aftersales policy of Toyota itself. This means the Japanese firm has confidence in the Proace’s reliability over a long period of time even though it doesn’t manufacture this model in its own factories.
That said, the ten years is only if you don’t reach 100,000 miles first, so depending on how frequently you plan to drive your Proace will determine whether you can take full advantage of that lengthy period.
2025 Toyota Proace: Dimensions, Trims & Body Styles
Length: 4980mm (Medium), 5330mm (Long)
Height: 1900mm
Wheelbase: 3275mm
Payload: 1000kg (1.5TD & 75kWh), 1360-1400kg (2.0TD 145), 1400kg (2.0TD 180 & 50kWh)
Cargo Capacity: 5800 litres (Medium), 6600 litres (Long)
Towing Capacity: 1000kg
The Toyota Proace can be chosen with two different body lengths (Medium and Long) and in three body styles (Panel Van, Crew Cab and Platform).
With 5800 litres in Medium guise and a full 6600 litres available in the extended version, the Proace offers an identical cargo hold to that of its Stellantis siblings and is therefore competitive for the class.
Where the Proace impresses, however, is in the details. For instance, each model comes with sliding doors on both sides – a feature that is an optional extra for some rivals – while the aperture is wide enough to accommodate a europallet.
The same can be said for the rear-end, which can also be specified with either a two 180-degree door opening or as a single-panel lifted tailgate.
Inside, the Proace also benefits from the Stellantis party piece – a bulkhead gate for especially long items named Smart Cargo.
By folding the front passenger seat flat, the hatch in the bulkhead therefore extends the length of the cargo bay from 2512mm to 3674mm, ideal for especially long pieces of timber or pipe.
2025 Toyota Proace: Engine, Performance & Drivetrains
1.5-litre Turbodiesel (122bhp)
2.0-litre Turbodiesel (147bhp, 182bhp)
50kWh Electric (136bhp)
75kWh Electric (136bhp)
Five different powertrain options – three turbodiesel and two electric – are available with the Toyota Proace.
The entry-level 1.5-litre turbodiesel offers 122bhp is the frugal option, managing plus-40mph on a combined cycle and emitting a competitive 175g/km of CO2.
Upgrade to the 2.0-litre turbodiesel generating 147bhp and you’ll enjoy more grunt using a manual gearbox, while the flagship 182bhp is only available with an automatic transmission.
Earning status as the first electric model in Toyota’s line-up, the Proace EV can be specified with the choice of two battery size options: 50kWh and 75kWh.
Both generate the same power of 136bhp but the 75kWh benefits from a longer range by way of its bigger battery.
In this guise, the Proace Electric is capable of up 215 miles on a single charge, while the smaller but more affordable 50kWh version reaches up to 143 miles.
In terms of charging, the 50kWh can go from 0-80% in 30mins on a 100kW rapid charger, while the 75kWh version takes 45mins to achieve the same.
