October 2019 was the second month of 69-plate vans for sale, Vansdirect reveals the ten best-selling new vans from last month!
Statistics released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have revealed a disappointing month for the UK new van market in October 2019 compared with October 2018 and was the second month in a row where year on year new van registrations have fallen in comparison with the corresponding month in 2018. A total of 25,373 new vans were sold last month in comparison with 28,494 in October 2018, a drop of 11% in new van sales for the period.
Despite a decrease in new van sales last month, it wasn’t all bad news, medium vans for sale enjoyed an increase of 31% whilst small vans for sale enjoyed an increase of 2%. Large vans for sale and pickups for sale both experienced declines in registrations last month of 19.2% and 12% respectively.
SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes commented on the second consecutive month of decline for the UK new van market:
”A second consecutive month of decline for new van registrations gives cause for concern, as uncertainty continues to have a negative impact on the purchasing of big ticket items. We need to reverse this trend, getting more of the latest models onto our roads to help improve air quality especially in urban areas. Crucial to this will be restoring economic and political stability to the UK, giving businesses the confidence to invest in their fleets.”
Here are the 10 leading new vans for sale from October 2019!
A new entry into the van sales UK top ten in October 2019 for the large Peugeot van, the Peugeot Boxer is a large van built for the very toughest of tasks and to meet all of the needs of your business, with four van lengths and three van heights available. 2020 will see the introduction of a new Peugeot Boxer electric van as the PSA Group intensifies their electric vans strategy. There were a total of 671 new Peugeot Boxer vans sold in October 2019.
From the largest van in the Peugeot vans range to the smallest, the new Peugeot Partner van. The new Peugeot van is regarded as setting a new benchmark in the small vans market alongside sister vans in the form of the new Citroen Berlingo and new Vauxhall Combo, so much so that the trio were crowned International Van of the Year 2019 and WhatVan? LCV of the Year 2019. There were a total of 984 new Peugeot Partner vans sold in October 2019.
Despite a declining month for pickups, the new Ford Ranger still managed to make the van sales UK top ten and takes its place as the only pickup truck on the list. The Ford Ranger was facelifted earlier on in 2019, adding a raft of the latest Ford vans safety technology to the pickup truck alongside more economical and more powerful engine options, not forgetting the revised bumper and grille design. There were a total of 1014 new Ford Ranger pickups sold in October 2019.
Taking the PSA small vans bragging rights for last month is the new Citroen Berlingo, with the new Peugeot Partner down in ninth spot and no space in the van sales UK top ten in October for the new Vauxhall Combo van. Choosing between the three small vans for sale is primarily down to which brand you prefer out of Citroen vans, Peugeot vans and Vauxhall vans with the fluctuating sales figures between the three a testament to how little there is to separate them. There were a total of 1096 new Citroen Berlingo vans sold in October 2019.
The Ford Transit Connect is the largest of two small Ford vans to wear the iconic ‘Transit van’ badge, sitting above the new Ford Transit Courier and is everything you’d expect from a Transit van albeit in a smaller more nimble package, with excellent levels of reliability, comfort, economy and some of the biggest load capacities in its segment. There were a total of 1212 new Ford Transit Connect vans sold in October 2019.
It’s a testament to just how popular the Ford Transit van remains, that being the fifth best-selling new van of last month would represent a slight disappointment for Ford vans. The Ford Transit van has recently been facelifted and features an all-new interior alongside increased payload figures, a host of the latest Ford vans safety technology and mild hybrid technology for the very first time. There were a total of 1292 new Ford Transit vans sold in October 2019.
VW vans have recently announced that order books are open for the new VW Transporter T6.1 and it is no coincidence to see VW Transporter sales back at a high level last month after languishing in tenth spot in September 2019. The new VW Transporter T6.1 is a facelifted model rather than a complete overhaul, however the new medium van will boast a range of new engines, new technology and an updated appearance amongst a host of updates. There were a total of 1323 new VW Transporter vans sold in October 2019.
Mercedes vans have a reputation for quality and reliability, this is certainly the case when looking at the largest van in their range, the new Mercedes Sprinter van. Despite offering fantastic load carrying abilities, the new Mercedes Sprinter is a large van which offers a car like driving experience with good levels of refinement in the cabin alongside responsive steering and excellent levels of comfort. There were a total of 1972 new Mercedes Sprinter vans sold in October 2019.
No this is not a mistake, the new Ford Transit Custom van was knocked off the top spot last month and instead had to settle for second place in the new van sales UK charts. The new Ford Transit Custom van is an excellent all-round van which combines a car-like driving experience and incredibly user friendly cabin with excellent load carrying abilities and economy. There were a total of 2450 new Ford Transit Custom vans sold in October 2019.
Flying the flag for Britain at the top of the chart last month was the new Vauxhall Vivaro van, the new Vauxhall van is available to order now and the results have been staggering, surpassing even the new Ford Transit Custom van at the top of the tree! The new Vauxhall Vivaro van has parted ways with the Renault Trafic and instead shares a platform with the award winning new Citroen Dispatch and new Peugeot Expert medium vans with the early signs looking incredibly positive for the new Vauxhall vans.
