Nissan Navara gets Euro 6 compliant engines

Nissan Navara gets Euro 6 compliant engines

Nissan has announced that their flagship pickup, the Navara NP300, will receive an engine upgrade to bring it in line with Euro 6 requirements. The International Pick-up of the Year just got better.

The Navara's 2.3-litre diesel engine has been enhanced with the addition of an AdBlue system and Start/Stop technology to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. Both of the pickup's 160PS and 190PS twin-turbocharged power units will be overhauled and as a result the Navara is fully compliant with Euro 6 legislation.

Euro 6 compliant

The gains aren't earth-shattering - the most economical engine variant boosts fuel economy by just 1.4mpg, up to 46.3mpg from the previous 44.9mpg, while the Navara now emits 8g less CO2 per kilometre (159g/km) than the previous engine.

A new emissions reduction system requires the AdBlue solution in order to function. If you don't know about AdBlue or want to know more, click here.

Enhancements aren't restricted to the engine. Nissan had already implemented unique features like Around View Monitor (AVM) and Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) in the NP300. All Navara models will now feature cruise control, speed limiter, Bluetooth and multi-function steering wheel buttons. Unchanged on the Navara are a one-tonne payload capacity, 3500kg towing capacity and a 3-year, 100,000 mile warranty.

Refinement is always 'car-like' according to the manufacturers, but the Navara NP300 truly does provide the ride and handling of an SUV. The Navara uses a five-link coil spring suspension - as opposed to the traditional leaf-sprung cart suspension - which delivers a smooth drive.

Nissan Navara features

Customers can choose between two of four-wheel drive as well as a six or seven-speed automatic gearbox. 30-degree slopes pose no obstacle to the Navara, which has three settings to the four-wheel drive system. 2Hi is the setting for 'regular' driving, 4Hi for awkward terrain like snow, ice, sand or gravel and 4Lo for those steep ascents.

The NP300 line-up remains the same; there's a choice of the Acenta, N-Connecta or Tekna.
