Arriving Soon: 2026 Mitsubishi L200 - Everything You Need To Know
Today’s pick-up truck market might be all about the top-selling Ford Ranger, but for a long time was the Mitsubishi L200 that ruled as ‘King of the Flat Beds’ in the UK... and now it wants its throne back!
Indeed, a glance at pick-up truck sales in the UK would suggest that it would be a foolhardy task for any manufacturer to swoop in and challenge the current runaway favourite from the Blue Oval.
But it should be remembered that Ford’s task to consolidate its position at the top of the rankings was made much easier by Mitsubishi’s abrupt decision to exit the UK market in 2021, despite the L200 still proving a popular draw.
Five years on, however, and Mitsubishi is mounting a big UK comeback and leading its charge is the L200, which has received a major overhaul since it was last seen on these shores.
Boasting a muscular new look, class-lead challenging workhorse figures and a host of new technological features, can the new L200 pick-up (geddit?) from where it left off and reclaim its crown from the Ford Ranger?

Mitsubishi L200 – A New Era for an Old Favourite
While hefty losses might have been the justification for Mitsubishi pulling back from the UK market in 2021, it certainly wasn’t for lack interest in its L200.
In fact, it was a bedrock of Mitsubishi’s range, the L200 routinely outselling many of its passenger cars, even when pick-up trucks were better associated with being mere tools for commerce and industry.
Regardless, the L200 found its niche across multiple demographics, steadily eschewing its workhorse origins in favour of a series of trendy upcycled special editions and some well-placed endorsement deals that perpetuated its image as a rough’em, tough’em vehicle.
It made the Mitsubishi L200 a surprise crossover hit, appealing to those turned off by the increasing number of ‘soft-roaders’ that put luxury over having any actual four-wheel drive ability.
Intentionally or not, the L200 was the driving force behind a shift towards the more lifestyle-oriented pick-up truck that could clamber over rocks and splash through rivers and still cosset a family of five comfortably. In short, whether it was lugging building supplies or surfboards, the L200 had you covered.
While it was a shame the L200 would become an unwitting victim of Mitsubishi’s wider decisions a few years, it just makes its (unexpected) return all the more exciting.
Better still, it is returning with a vengeance, the latest generation – which has been sold for some time under the Triton nameplate in other markets – proving quite the departure from its predecessor.
Re-appearing as though it has spent the last five years in the gym necking protein supplements, the muscular new model looks like it could go 15 rounds in the ring with the similarly beefy Ford Ranger and come out with nothing more than a few bruisy dents.
Set to hit UK roads again later this year, it’s time to take a closer look at what the new L200 pick-up is packing...

2026 Mitsubishi L200 Body Styles
The Mitsubishi L200 will arrive on UK shores available in a Double Cab body style, putting it in direct competition with its main rivals, the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max.
It will also be made available as a two-seat ‘Commercial’ variant, with the rear passenger area replaced by a separate ‘hidden’ load compartment in addition to the flat bed.
It means this model will be fully compliant with UK commercial vehicle legislation, allowing operators to benefit from the 100% plant and machinery allowance and a flat BiK (Benefit-in-Kind) rate of £4,020.
As a reference, Isuzu recently introduced similar take with its D-Max as a way of pushing its viability as a commercial vehicle primarily.
2026 Mitsubishi L200: Dimensions, Loads & Weights
In terms of external dimensions, the L200 is marginally shorter than the Ranger and Hilux at 5320mm, but longer than the D-Max, but its 3130mm wheelbase is more comparable with the Ford.
Load length measures 1555mm, which is on a par with the Hilux and D-Max but gives away almost 100mm to the class-leading Ranger. The load bed is as deep as the Ranger’s, however, at 526mm, while the L200 will be able to hold a Euro pallet.
We’re using the Australian-specification Triton for reference here, until UK specifications are formally confirmed.
However, based on that version, the L200 is set to stand out as one of the most heavy-duty capable models in the pick-up truck segment with payload capacity rated across the range as being between 1071 to 1111kg.
Better yet, the L200 will tow at the maximum braked weight of 3500kg.

2026 Mitsubishi L200: Engine, Performance & Powertrains
The Mitsubishi L200 will be available with a 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
For those familiar with the previous generation L200, it is a reworking of that model’s engine architecture to deliver more power and torque.
Generating 202bhp, it makes the L200 among the most powerful pick-up trucks in the class, bettered only by the Maxus T60 MAX and the Ford Ranger PHEV and 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel.
Of perhaps greater importance is the 470Nm of torque, which ensures the L200 has more pulling power than many of its closest rivals.
The impressive torque complements the L200’s Super Select 4WD-II system, which allows the driver to toggle between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive on the move.
From here, the L200 can be slipped into one of seven off-road driving modes that precisely adjust traction and throttle response to any surface.
Indeed, Mitsubishi has developed an enviable reputation for a series of go-anywhere models over the year – most notably, the Shogun 4x4 – which suggests the L200 should have little bother conquering even the toughest terrains the UK can throw at it.
