Best new vans set to join the market in 2020


2020 promises to be another big year for the UK new van market as more major manufactures look launch a host of greener and electric vans. Vansdirect takes a look at the best new vans set to join the UK new van market next year.

 

Best new vans 2020

2019 has been an impressive year for new van sales, with a host of new vans joining the market including International Van of the Year 2019 winning trio, the new Citroen Berlingo, new Peugeot Partner and new Vauxhall Combo vans. Other new van highlights in 2019 included a facelifted Ford Transit van and facelifts to two iconic pickup trucks, the Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi L200.

 

2020 is set to bet another hugely important year in the UK new van market, expect to see electric van sales increase again, with governments in major cities looking to stamp down on the worst polluting vehicles. So expect an electric theme for many of the new vans on our list!

 

Here are the best new vans set to join the market in 2020!

 

Vauxhall Vivaro-e

The new Vauxhall Vivaro van has only just joined the market, however Vauxhall vans have revealed their plans to launch a new Vauxhall Vivaro electric van in 2020, named the e-Vivaro. The new electric van will get a claimed maximum range of 185 miles on the WLTP cycle with 50kWh and 75kWh battery options available.

It's no surprise that with the Vauxhall Vivaro van going electric, that the new Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert vans would follow suit. Citroen vans claim that the new electric van will offer similar payloads to the diesel range and will offer reduced whole life costs.

Almost identical to the new Citroen Dispatch and new Vauxhall Vivaro electric vans above, the e-Expert will offer exactly the same load carrying capabilities and range as its PSA stablemates above with all models built on the same EMP2 platform.

 

VW Transporter T6.1

The sixth generation of the iconic VW Transporter van may only have joined the market in 2016, however VW vans are still intent to give the medium van a comprehensive set up updates. The appearance has been modified with a larger unified grille, whilst the latest model also boasts a host of the latest technology, with even entry level models featuring Cross Wind Assist as standard. There's also the host of the latest highly economical TDI diesel engines.

 

VW e-Transporter

Along with the revisions to the VW Transporter van above, there will also be a VW Transporter electric van for sale built in collaboration with tuning company ABT. There will be the option of 38.8 or 77.6 kWh battery options offering a range on the NEDC cycle up to 249 miles. Cargo capacity is the same as the standard VW Transporter van.

 

VW Caddy

The VW Caddy is the oldest van in the VW vans range and was last refreshed in 2015 receiving a new front end design alongside a revised interior. It is expected that with the VW Transporter T6.1 joining the market at the start of 2020 that VW vans will then turn to their small van for a substantial facelift to follow the design of the larger Transporter van. We eagerly await images of the new VW Caddy van.

 

Toyota Proace City

You may think this new small van looks rather familiar, you'd be right. Very much a shrunk down version of the Toyota Proace medium van, the Toyota Proace City van will share a platform with International Van of the Year 2019 winners, the new Citroen Berlingo and new Peugeot Partner vans. Like its sister vans, the new small van will be available in two wheelbases with payloads up to one tonne.

 

Nissan NV250

Another new small van set for next year and another that may look familiar, the Nissan NV250 is essentially a Renault Kangoo or Mercedes Citan van but with a new nose and the Nissan V-shaped grille at the front of the van. Even the headlights of the new Nissan van remain unaltered. The Nissan NV250 will be the only Nissan small van, with the Nissan NV200 leaving the market in 2020.

 

Citroen Relay electric

Citroen vans revealed a shock at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2019 with the reveal of the Citroen Relay electric van. The new large electric van will be available with 44kWh and 62kWh engine options with a claimed driving range of 169 miles on the larger option. The electric motor will deliver 96ps with a top speed limited to 55mph.

On the stand alongside the Citroen Relay electric van at the 2019 CV Show was the almost identical Peugeot Boxer electric van, which offers the same load carrying and range capabilities as the electric Citroen van. The new large electric vans are seen as a solution more stringent emissions legislations in large towns and cities.

 

Fiat Ducato electric

With the Citroen Relay and Peugeot Boxer large vans both going electric, it's no surprise that Fiat vans have announced their first ever electric van in the form of the Fiat Ducato electric. The electric Fiat van has been developed using a year's worth of real world customer data relating to how they use commercial vehicles.

The new Mercedes Sprinter van was developed from day one with battery power in mind and the electric van is expected to join the range at some point in 2020. The eSprinter will offer a range of either 71 or 93 miles dependent on whether you choose three or four batteries and can carry a payload up to 1040kg.

 

Renault Kangoo

Originally introduced into the market in 2008, the Renault Kangoo van will be the oldest van on the market when it comes to being replaced next year. Very little has been revealed about the new Renault van at this stage, but Renault vans has revealed the new Kangoo ZE concept pictured above. We also know that it will feature a selection of new petrol and diesel engines and share the same chassis as the Mercedes Citan van.
