The ten best-selling new vans in the UK 2018
The UK new van market enjoyed its fourth best year on record in 2018, surpassing expectations, Vansdirect reveals the ten best-selling new vans of 2018!
The UK's top ten selling new vans 2018
1. Ford Transit Custom
The van at the top of the tree again in 2018 will come as no surprise, the Ford Transit Custom underwent a facelift early on in 2018 giving it a new front end and a highly modified interior with a host of new technology. These enhancements were more than enough for the Ford Transit Custom to cement its place at the top of the UK new van market, with popularity that is showing no sign of waning. 54,806 New Ford Transit Custom vans were registered in the UK in 2018, the third highest of any vehicle and over 20,000 more than its nearest rival in the new van market. Popularity can only be expected to increase with the introduction of a hybrid model in 2019.
2. Ford Transit
In second place is the big brother of the van in first, the iconic Ford Transit van. Ford vans dominated the UK best-selling vans charts in 2018, with no fewer than four models in the top ten, with the big daddy of them all taking an impressive second place with 32,694 new Ford Transit vans registered last year. A facelifted Ford Transit van will join the market in 2019, which will make use of mild hybrid technology for the very first time.
3. Volkswagen Transporter
Another incredibly iconic van, there were an impressive 21,763 new VW Transporter vans registered in the UK in 2018. VW vans took to the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in 2018 to reveal two new variants of the Volkswagen Transporter in the form of a 48-volt mild hybrid model and a fully electric e-Transporter model, time will only tell whether either of these models will join the UK market and whether there'd be any boost in sales as a result.
4. Mercedes Sprinter
Mercedes vans introduced an all-new Mercedes Sprinter van in 2018 and the results have been incredibly impressive, with a large van dubbed the 'most connected van the world has ever seen'. The all-new model got a sleek new design, a new interior inspired by the Mercedes-Benz car range and a whole host of new connectivity technology making it the complete package. 21,278 new Mercedes Sprinter vans were sold in 2018, however the new model only joined the range midway through the year and it is sensible to expect even greater things from the Sprinter in 2019!
5. Vauxhall Vivaro
Another award winning van, the Best of British Vauxhall Vivaro enjoyed another fruitful year in 2018 with 19,232 new Vauxhall Vivaro vans sold in the UK. The versatile medium van offers excellent levels of practicality and reliability, making it perfect for a host of different businesses. Later on in 2019 we'll see an all-new Vauxhall Vivaro van which will share a platform with PSA partners in the form of the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert, expect buyers in their thousands flocking out for the new Vauxhall Vivaro van in 2019.
6. Ford Transit Connect
Another Ford van, the Ford Transit Connect is an excellent small van which alongside the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Courier vans also underwent a facelift in 2018, giving the Connect a sleeker front end appearance and grille and a completely updated interior to give the small van a refresh. Ford vans also introduced a Sport model to the best-selling small van of 2018 at the IAA Commercial vehicle show in Hannover, with this model expected to assist with growth of the Connect in 2019. 17,495 new Ford Transit Connect vans were sold in the UK in 2018.
7. Ford Ranger
Pick-ups enjoyed an impressive 2018 with registrations up 4.3 percent from 2017; but despite this, the Ford Ranger was the only pick-up to make the top ten in 2018. The iconic pick-up introduced a special edition Wildtrak X model in 2018, whilst the Ford Ranger Raptor performance model will join the market in 2019. 16,440 new Ford Ranger pick-ups were sold in the UK in 2018, it will face some stiff competition in the pick-up market in 2019 with a new Mitsubishi L200 model on its way!
8. Peugeot Partner
International Van of the Year 2019, WhatVan? Van of the Year 2019, the all-new Peugeot Partner has already won several awards despite only recently becoming available. The 15,056 Peugeot Partner vans sold in 2018 were primarily predecessor models which were excellent small vans in their own right, however the new model has taken the Partner to another level and expect it to be far higher than eighth in the table in 2019.
9. Citroen Berlingo
The same applies as for the Peugeot Partner above, the 13,428 Citroen Berlingo vans sold last year would almost all have been predecessor models. The new Citroen Berlingo shared the accolades above with the new Peugeot Partner and new Vauxhall Combo vans which are all built on the same platform, with the three small vans all capable of carrying in excess of one-tonne! Expect sales of the three new small vans to be high in 2019.
10. Peugeot Boxer
Taking the final spot in the top ten best-sellers charts is a fantastic large workhorse in the form of the Peugeot Boxer. Offering four van lengths and three roof heights and up to 17.0 cubic metres of load volume, the Boxer is as versatile as it is durable with a model for everyone's requirements. Combine this with incredibly low running costs and high levels of efficiency and you've got the whole large van package. 11,731 new Peugeot Boxer vans were sold in 2018.
