Renault Kangoo ZE updated with Master ZE to follow
Renault has revealed two new vans at the Brussels Motor Show today - both electric versions of their existing models, the Kangoo and Master.
Renault Kangoo ZE
The Renault Kangoo ZE (zero emissions) has been available for quite some time. Six years, in fact - and Renault claims that the smallest van in its commercial vehicle range has been Europe's best-selling electric van for the last six years.
With a range of 168 miles, the new and upgraded Kangoo ZE can travel 50% further on a full charge than the current model. This range is also the highest of any electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) available on the market.
Charging time has been reduced from eight to six hours thanks to a new and improved 44kW motor and 33kWh battery. Announced just last month, the upgraded Kangoo ZE also has a heat pump - the first electric LCV to include one.
The Renault Kangoo ZE will be available in just one size, in contrast to the bigger Master, which will be available in a combination of one of three lengths and two heights. As with the current Kangoo ZE, expect both new models to be part of Renault's battery hire agreement. This arrangement means that you buy the van and lease the battery pack from Renault for a monthly fee.
Renault Master ZE
According to Renault, the Master ZE will offer a maximum range of 124 miles from a single charge. This makes it perfectly suited to busy city centres. Thanks to a number of lengths and heights the Master will offer payloads up to 1100kg with load volumes ranging from 8 to 22 cubic metres. An L3 flatbed model will also be available in due course.
The Master does get Renault's latest R-Link system, incorporating smartphone connectivity, touchscreen navigation and digital radio. Interestingly a speed limiter function will be included for fleet owners to preserve the life of the battery.
The new Renault Kangoo ZE is due to go on sale in the UK mid-2017, while the Master ZE is expected towards the end of the year.
