Mercedes Sprinter at a glance

Mercedes Sprinter at a glance

The current-generation Mercedes Sprinter launched in 2013 with a facelifted version of the previous van. That's not to say that the changes were insignificant - Mercedes went further than the usual headlights and grille.

It did get a new front-end, however it's also more comfortable and more efficient than its predecessor. The cabin upholstery and seat coverings have been replaced, as have the steering wheel and air vents. The gearstick has also been redesigned to be more ergonomic and the radio now includes Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in connectivity.

The Sprinter already enjoyed a solid reputation as an excellent large van with superior handling, but Mercedes still decided to improve in these areas. The chassis was lowered for better handling and improved drag - not to mention easier access to the load area.

Another benefit is in the Sprinter's refinement; you'll notice how quiet this van is - especially on the motorway. The lower chassis also contributes here; the drag reduction brings with it a noise reduction. You'll also notice how well the Sprinter handles with or without a full load, providing a smooth ride no matter what's in the back.

Under the hood is a 2.2-litre diesel engine, available in three power outputs. Power/Torque combinations of 95PS/250Nm, 130PS/305Nm and 163PS/360Nm. A more powerful, 3.0-litre 190PS/440Nm engine is also available.

The Sprinter's load area provides load securing rings to protect you, your passengers and your cargo. As standard is a single sliding side load door, while the rear doors open to 180 degrees. The long wheelbase, high roof model provides a usable load length of 4300mm and width of 1736mm. With headroom just shy of 2-metres at 1940mm there won't be much of a problem standing up and moving around.

Mercedes have extended service intervals even further - to 37,000 miles - which means a more reliable van that spends even less time off the road, so you can get on with the job.
