Louis Foster returns to top of podium at Knockhill

Louis Foster returns to top of podium at Knockhill

Vansdirect sponsored Louis Foster returned to the top step of the British F4 podium on the weekend in the final race of the weekend in Knockhill. Vansdirect reviews the action!

Race Weekend Eight - Knockhill

The British F4 Championship headed to Scotland last weekend, with Vansdirect sponsored Louis Foster in search of more points as he attempts to end his debut campaign in single-seaters on a high.

Qualifying

Qualifying in Knockhill was incredibly positive for Foster, with his fastest lap of the session securing him a front row start for the first race of the weekend. His second fastest race of the session was also quick enough to secure second place in the third race of the weekend!

Race One

For the first race of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, Foster lined up second on the grid. He recorded an excellent start and made his way into the first corner level pegging with Zane Maloney, continuing to apply the pressure with the pair running nose-to-tail on the opening lap of the race.

Unfortunately on the second lap, Foster made an uncharacteristic mistake which saw him slip down to fourth place after missing the Arnold Clark Chicane. Despite recovering from the mistake, he made a mistake at the same corner two laps later and was forced into an incredibly rare early retirement.

A disappointed Foster commented following the first race:

"I am very disappointed with the result in race one, we had great potential for a podium and a mistake from me cost us a good finish. I am annoyed but everyone makes mistakes and I will be aiming to bounce back for the next two races, that is for sure!"

Race Two

Due to the result in the first race, Louis had to start race two from the back of the field in 13th position. At the end of the first lap, Foster was already in top form and running in ninth place, he then set his sights on Mariano Martinez in eighth, taking less than two laps to move past him.

Pushing on, the Vansdirect sponsored racer made light work of Bart Horsten continuing to make his way through the field. Not content with sixth, Louis sensed more blood and more points with him able to capitalise on fifth place in the closing stages of the race after Maloney suffered from damage and that's where he would cross the line having made up an impressive eight positions.

A happier Foster commented following the second race:

"That was a fun race! It was great to be able to come through the field like that to score the first points of the weekend. I knew I had a lot of work to do after the first race, so I am confident that it is going in the right direction."

Race Three

Louis lined up second on the grid for the final race of the weekend, however the man in pole, Maloney was forced to miss the race with a mechanical issue. Louis hence had a clear track ahead of him, with his teammate Sebastian Alvarez behind him for company.

As the race got underway, the pressure was immediately placed on Foster with challengers extremely close in behind him, a safety car period helped to alleviate some of the pressure and at the restart the Vansdirect sponsored racer kept his nerve to maintain his lead for the race. Keeping out of trouble, he stretched his lead to 0.9 seconds over teammate Alvarez and after 23 laps of racing Foster crossed the line in first place to celebrate his first race victory since Donington Park in April.

An elated Foster spoke following the final race of the weekend:

"I am delighted to have won...it has been a long time coming! It was a good race - the car felt good and I kept my head down. Alvarez applied pressure at the safety car restart, but I kept my composure to keep him behind. I want to say a massive thank you to all of my sponsors, family and the whole Double R Racing team. This gives us a huge boost heading to Silverstone."

With two racing weekends left of the 2019 season, Louis is fourth in the championship on 272 points - only six points behind the third placed Josh Skelton.

The next and penultimate round of the British F4 Championship will take place at Silverstone in two weeks' time over the weekend of 28-29 September.
