Peugeot Partner, Citroen Berlingo Dominate Small Van Sales In UK
The Peugeot Partner has established status as the UK’s most popular small van, dethroning its sister model – the Citroen Berlingo – according to the SMMT.
The models, which form two-fifths of a Stellantis small van alliance that also includes the FIAT Doblo, the Vauxhall Combo and Toyota Proace City, were among the best performers in the sales charts in May 2025.
The Partner was classified as the third best-selling commercial vehicle during the month, lifting it to sixth on the year-to-date ranking, just ahead of the similar Berlingo.
The performance of the Partner allowed it to break the familiar Ford 1-2-3 often established in the monthly sales tables.
The Ford Transit Custom remains the best-selling commercial vehicle in the UK, followed up by the Ford Transit. However, sales of the Ford Ranger slipped as the impact from the first full month of sales for pick-up trucks under its new tax classification was felt.
Sales of vans in the UK slipped for a sixth consecutive month year-on-year with drops across the board in all sectors, including the volume medium-large van segment.
So far in 2025, sales are down just over 11 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
There are some green shoots of positivity though with small vans being up 33.2 per cent in the year-to-date, while electric vans continue to gain ground by holding steady at 8% of the market share.
