New Mercedes Sprinter unveiled!

New Mercedes Sprinter unveiled!

Mercedes vans have revealed the third generation new Mercedes Sprinter, with a comprehensive redesign and fully-loaded with the latest technology!

New Mercedes Sprinter Mk3

The all-new Mercedes Sprinter has been unveiled, the brand new large van from Mercedes vans has been redesigned with the aim of offering technologically advanced delivery solutions for a range of different businesses, from SME's to global corporations. Mercedes vans have boasted that the new Mercedes Sprinter Mk3 is available with in excess of 1,700 different configurations, with a range of body chassis and seating options, to meet every possible business requirement.

Evolution of the Mercedes Sprinter

What is apparent from the unveiling of the Sprinter Mk3 is the evolution of the iconic large van; we initially brought you sketches previewed by the vision van, however the new van is boxier in appearance than the concept. In comparison to previous models, the new van gets a more distinct angle between the bonnet and windscreen, what does remain from prior models is the prominent grille with the iconic large three-pointed Mercedes star. The shape of the new van is aimed to move the cab area forward to enhance rear carrying capacity.

New Mercedes Sprinter FWD

Mercedes vans are now offering a front-wheel drive model of the Mercedes Sprinter to join the well-established rear and all-wheel drive offerings. The new front-wheel drive model offers an 80mm lower load floor to improve both access and load volume. Mercedes vans believe that this is perfect for courier fleets that don't necessarily require the heavy payload associated with a rear-wheel drive van. The new model is up to 50kg lighter, therefore van fleets will be able to save on running costs by going for the smallest engine available without compromising the flexibility of the new van.

New Mercedes Sprinter - engines

We are still awaiting full confirmation of the engine details, however we do know that the new model will be available with a selection of different diesel engines with outputs ranging between 113ps and 188ps. Mercedes vans will also offer six-speed manual and optional seven-speed and nine-speed G-Tronic transmissions.

Mercedes vans will also introduce an electric version of the new Sprinter van labelled the eSprinter, which will be aimed at companies that use their vans for short, local journeys that will not put extensive drain on the battery. A hybrid model won't be joining the range any time soon (if ever) with the van having to compromise too much on payload for only a minor reduction in emissions.

New Mercedes Sprinter - driving aids

The new Mercedes Sprinter Mk3 is fully loaded with the latest driving aids to build on Mercedes vans glowing safety reputation. Standard safety aids include: Distronic adaptive cruise control, adaptive stability control and cross wind assist which will brake each wheel individually to prevent the new van from rolling over. The new Sprinter is designed to be easy to drive, the options of a parking package with park assist are available to assist new van drivers in negotiating challenging delivery areas.

New Mercedes Sprinter - models

The new front-wheel drive Sprinter will be available in wheelbases up to 3.9 metres, with the rear-wheel drive model available with a wheelbase up to 4.3 metres. For a wider load area, the rear-wheel drive model with single rear wheels offers 1.2 metres of width. A variety of body styles will be available, with standard, long and extra-long panel vans, different wheelbases, standard and high-roof options, passenger versions, crew vans and chassis cabs.

New Mercedes Sprinter - inside

Mercedes vans have taken features from the passenger car range into the new Sprinter, this includes a keyless starter button and the Mercedes electric seat adjustment buttons which are the shape of a seat. The standard central dashboard is also fitted with an orthodox appearing stereo, this can be upgraded with the optional MBUX touchscreen infotainment system.

New Mercedes Sprinter - connectivity features

It is clear that the new model with either match or better its predecessor in regards of payload, load volume and fuel economy, however Mercedes vans are also focusing on 'connectivity' allowing fleet users to monitor their vans. The Sprinter Mk3 will include a built-in communications module which allows van fleet managers to monitor their vans as they see fit, allow remote control of load areas and automatically schedule maintenance work, ensuring the vans are off the road for as little time as possible and during quieter periods.
