Ford Transit Custom - Up close and personal
The Ford Transit Custom is the UK's most popular van and for some reason, today at Vansdirect we went up close and personal with the Transit Custom and share our experience with you!
Introduction to the Ford Transit Custom
Available in two lengths and heights and four different trim levels, the Ford Transit Custom sets the bar in the medium van market in terms of versatility and efficiency. The Transit Custom has not only dominated this new van segment for a while, but also dominated the whole of the UK new van market.
Features of the Ford Transit Custom
Inside the cab
The inside of the cab area was spacious and included a whole host of impressive and convenient features to make your working day easier and a number of practical stowage solutions, including 2-litre bottle holders, stowage box over instruments and lift-up cushion on dual-passenger bench seat which allows for extra stowage. We were also able to make ourselves comfortable, with an 8-way adjustable driver's seat, which also included an armrest. We also found a wide range of technology in the cab, from electrically operated front windows to a radio with bluetooth.
Load area
The load area loads separately from the cab area for extra security and is separated from the seating area via a full metal bulkhead. The area can be accessed via a left-side sliding door, or via the rear doors that open to 180 degrees. The bulkhead also included a load-through facility to cater for longer load lengths, the bulkhead flap can be held open by a magnet. We also found 6.0 cubic metres of load volume on our L1 H1 model, enough to accommodate 3 Europallets and an 8x4 sheet if we so wished! While the loadspace compartment lights would have come in handy were we to enter the van at night-time.
How was the Ford Transit Custom to drive?
The answer is very good, the Custom had a number of convenient features to make the drive easier: A gear shift indicator to aid economical driving was particularly impressive, prompting you the most efficient time to change gear. Door mirrors contain a blind spot eliminator, a crucial feature in keeping you safe on the roads, whereas the new van's headlights come with a courtesy delay to help keep other drivers safe. When driving the Ford Transit Custom we felt comfortable and relaxed, with the van smoothly accelerating to high speeds and this was only the 130ps model, imagine the 170ps! We also liked the high driving position, providing us with a very clear view of the road ahead and a surprisingly light steering.
