Ford Transit Connect Sport to join the range

Ford Transit Connect Sport to join the range

It was announced last year that Ford vans would be giving the Ford Transit Connect and Ford Transit Courier vans a facelift, Ford vans still surprised us at the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicles show by launching a new Ford Transit Connect Sport van!

What features does the Ford Transit Connect Sport receive?

In common with all of the recent Sport vans from Ford vans, the new Ford Transit Connect Sport van receives an exterior styling kit, alloy wheels and stripes. The stripes just like the latest Ford Transit Custom Sport van are matt black with silver or orange accents. On the inside of the new van you'll find part-leather trim in conjunction with standard features which include: dual-zone electronic temperature control, a starter button, cruise control and cornering fog lights.

Ford Transit Connect and Ford Transit Courier facelifts

Announced in December 2017 and available now from Vansdirect, both of the smallest vans in the Ford Transit van line-up have received revised looks and engineering upgrades which include an all-new 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine for the Ford Transit Connect van, designed with the aim of reducing running costs and improving fuel economy of the small van.

What's changed on the 2018 Ford Transit Connect van?

Exterior changes of the Ford Transit Connect follow a similar theme to those applied to the facelifted Ford Transit Custom van, meaning there is a new three-bar grille set higher in the front of the van and slimmer headlights, bringing styling similar to the Ford car range. A new front spoiler and new lower bumper area complete the exterior modifications, with Ford vans boasting improved aerodynamics as a result. Inside you'll see a revised dashboard with a new central control area including the availability of a new 6.0-inch tablet style touchscreen infotainment system on higher spec models, using the same Ford Sync 3 software as the larger Ford Transit Custom. There are also new materials and trims featured which Ford vans boast are more 'stylish and hard-wearing'.

Updated engines

The Ford Transit Connect is now available with the 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine with 75ps, 100ps and 120ps outputs, with claimed fuel economies in excess of 55mpg for all models, Ford vans have stated that the new engines meet Euro 6.2 emission regulations, partly thanks to the use of a selective catalytic reduction emissions system (AdBlue). The new Ford Transit Connect is also available with an updated version of Ford's 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, the output hasn't yet been stated but is capable of 44.1mpg.

Segment first driver assistance technology

Ford vans have stated that the new Ford Transit Connect van gains some driver assistance technology never seen before in the small van segment, available technology includes: Intelligent speed limiter, pre-collision assist, side wind stabilisation and active park assist.

What's new on Ford Transit Courier van?

The Ford Transit Courier also gets a smart new appearance, however the visual modifications are less obvious than the Ford Transit Connect with the reshaped grille and revised lower bumper area representing a far less significant visual change on the Ford Transit Courier. Inside the new van there's also no floating tablet, however there is a redesigned centre console available with a larger 6.0-inch integrated display screen and Ford Sync 3 infotainment system.

Updated engines

The Ford Transit Courier van gets modified versions of the existing 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine with 75ps and 100ps outputs and 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with 100ps with the aim of improving fuel efficiency and reduce costs. Under the stringent WLTP testing, the diesel Courier can achieve 65.6 mpg, with the petrol model achieving 53.2 mpg.

Limited Spec model

Ford vans have added a new Ford Transit Courier Limited trim level to the range for the first time to offer an alternative to the top spec Sport model at the very top of the range.
