Ford Ranger Raptor - everything you need to know!

Ford Ranger Raptor - everything you need to know!

The rugged Ford Ranger Raptor pick-up truck is on its way, our team of new van experts at Vansdirect take a closer look at the new flagship pick-up truck from Ford vans!

Ford Ranger Raptor pick-up

The range topping pick-up from Ford vans joins the market later on this year, with full specifications for the eye-catching Ford Ranger Raptor now available, following the recent reveal of the facelifted Ford Ranger for 2019.

The new model will be powered by a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine delivering 210ps and 500Nm of torque. Ford vans are said to be hoping that the new pick-up will enhance the capabilities of the Ford Ranger both on and off-road. The new engine driver the Ranger through the same ten-speed automatic transmission as the US-spec Ford F-150 Raptor. The Raptor ensures peak performance in varying conditions with six different modes, two for use on-road and four off-road.

Standard features

With an incredible reaction globally to the Ford F-150 Raptor, it's no surprise that Ford vans have brought it to these shores, with the Ford Ranger also already being the UK's best-selling pick-up. In addition to the additional power and aggressive visual modifications, buyers of the Ford Ranger Raptor pick-up get all of the usual supplies, power points, locking points and a host of driver assistance technology. Traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, collisions mitigation system and a rear view camera all come as standard. Also standard are leather seats, Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen.

Visual modifications

Marking the Ford Ranger Raptor from the outside is a new grille, extra ground clearance and LED fog lamps in the front bumper. The bumpers have been flared so that they can house the larger wheels which are mounted onto a long-travel suspension. Designed to go a long way off the beaten track, the front bumper of the Raptor are made of composite materials for better withstanding dings and dents, whilst the side steps are made from a tough aluminum alloy and contain holes to drain mud, sand and snow.

Inside the pick-up the rough and tough theme follows on from the outside, with unique seating designed to give enhanced support at high speeds off-road including suede sections to hold occupants in place. A red stripe on the steering wheel points which way the wheel is facing.

The chassis of the Ford Ranger Raptor pick-up has been upgraded significantly to handle the higher demands of high-speed use off-road. The frame is not only tougher and stiffer, but there's also upgrades brakes. The race-bred suspension of the pick-up has been set-up to encounter unforgiving off-road terrain at speeds, whilst also being comfortable on the road. Ford vans have also included a unique bash plate underneath and specially developed tyres with tough sidewalls and a special tread pattern for grip in mud snow and sand. The satellite navigation gets an off-road bug, with a breadcrumb feature which allows you to lay and retrace their steps in unfamiliar terrain.
