Small vans

New Citroen Berlingo vans for sale

Starting off small, this category covers a lot of vans. In fact it's almost three categories in one. The first, car-derived vans (CDV) like the Ford Fiestavan are designed for low-scale operations that travel a lot, such as beauty therapists, or estate agents. Loadspace and payload aren't significant (generally 1 cubic metre and 500Kg) but if you've decided a CDV is enough for you then that probably won't matter.

Next are midi vans such as the Fiat Fiorino. There's other vans such as Ford Transit Courier and Renault Kangoo. These vans retain a small profile but provide a lot more load volume and payload capacity than a Car-derived van, mainly thanks to a 'boxy' shape.

Finally, you have your traditional small vans. These include the Citroen Berlingo, Ford Transit Connect, Volkswagen Caddy and Vauxhall Combo, to name a few. Some of these vans offer exceptional volumes - up to 3.5 cubic metres in some cases, as well as a great payload. Some small vans, such as the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Vauxhall Combo and Fiat Doblo Cargo can actually accommodate over a tonne of cargo.

Medium vans

New Ford Transit Custom

Moving on then, this category covers what is probably the most popular van segment. The traditional 'one-tonne' panel van! That does not refer to the weight of the van, but the weight it can comfortably (and legally) carry. Medium vans are best suited to those looking for a compromise between size and space.

The most popular medium vans include the Ford Transit Custom and the Volkswagen Transporter, but these vans tend to be at the higher end of the pricing scale. If you're on a budget, it's definitely worth looking at vans like the Citroen Dispatch, Peugeot Expert or Vauxhall Vivaro. These vans tend to be cheaper yet offer a lot of great and innovative features as standard! As a bonus, the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert have a lower profile than the rest and as a result, they are able to safely enter and negotiate underground car parks.

Large vans

Mercedes Sprinter

Time to mix it with the big boys. Large vans are best suited to those who need a larger carrying capacity, or extra load space. This sector is growing rapidly due to the rise in popularity of online shopping and the need for delivery couriers.

Anyway, there are a lot of major players in the large van segment - all of whom want you to buy their van. Ultimately, the van you choose should always be the best van for your requirements. It doesn't matter if you prefer the Renault Master to the Ford Transit - if the Ford Transit carries an extra few hundred kilos of payload, and that's your priority, then you should go for the Ford Transit. That's not to say the Ford Transit is better. There are a lot of large vans including the Nissan NV400, Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer, Mercedes Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter. The Mercedes Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter are the two latest all new additions to the UK large vans market.

Pick-ups

mitsubishi l200

The pick-up is an attractive vehicle, and among the most desirable in our range. The old classics like the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara continue to lead the way. Evidence of their popularity can be seen in the news; people are now going for pickups over a company car.

They are dual purpose, equally as comfortable as a family run around (with a double cab model) or on adverse off-road terrain. Most will carry over a tonne in weight, complemented by a large towing capacity.
