Leading new vans for sale from January 2020
January 2020 was an encouraging start for the UK new van market with 23,557 new van sales last month, an increase of 5.9% over the same period in 2019, figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have revealed.
Leading the way in January 2020 were medium vans and small vans with growth of 41.7% and 26.3% respectively in comparison with January 2019, whilst pickups and large vans declined last month by 9.7% and 0.9% respectively.
SMMT Chief Executive, Mike Hawes commented on an encouraging start to the year in 2020:
" January's growth is welcome news for the commercial vehicle sector. Especially welcome is the increased uptake of alternatively fuelled commercial vehicles, essential if we are to address both climate change and air quality goals. The fastest way to do this is by encouraging uptake of the latest low emission vehicles, regardless of fuel type, and business confidence remains vital for this transition."

10. Vauxhall Combo
One of a trio of small vans for sale from the PSA Group which were crowned International Van of the Year 2019 and WhatVan? LCV of the Year 2019, two awards certainly not to be sniffed at. In being built alongside the new Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner, the new Vauxhall Combo parted ways with the Fiat Doblo Cargo, with the results speaking for themselves since the new model has been brought to the market. Deciding between the three excellent small vans is ultimately down to preference over the badge, with all offering fantastic all-round capabilities.

9. Ford Ranger
Despite a month where pickups for sale struggled slightly, the new Ford Ranger still took a spot in the top ten. The Ranger pickup is built for the toughest of tasks and is strong and durable, however it is also incredibly comfortable and thrives as a lifestyle vehicle particularly when in top spec Ranger Wildtrak guise. On the market for more than forty years, the popularity of the Ford Ranger pickup has shown no signs of waning.

8. VW Transporter
As orders are now being taken for the new VW Transporter T6.1 you'd expect it won't be long until the iconic VW van climbs the table again. The latest VW Transporter van is a facelifted model of what has gone before and despite the T6 only being on the market since 2016, VW vans have given it a refresh with a raft of their latest safety technology and new more economical engines.

7. Mercedes Sprinter
The largest van in the excellent Mercedes vans range, there's a Mercedes Sprinter van for almost everyone's requirements with numerous body styles and sizes each of which offers car like levels of comfort in the cabin of the van and a driving experience up there with the very best in its segment. Mercedes also boast that with the Sprinter van you're guaranteed a higher level of standard spec than any of its rivals.

6. Peugeot Partner
The second of the PSA trio of small vans, the new Peugeot Partner van is more comfortable, economical and better equipped than ever before. There'll soon be a fourth van based on the same platform joining the UK new van market in the form of the Toyota Proace City, with Toyota vans clearly looking to build upon a formula for success with their new small van.

5. Citroen Berlingo
Taking the bragging rights for the 'triplets' in January 2020 was the new Citroen Berlingo van, fighting back after having to settle for second place to the new Peugeot Partner van in 2019. The Citroen Berlingo van has been a huge part of the small vans market for some twenty years and is renowned as an excellent workhorse and whilst this is still true for the newest model, there's so much more substance to the all-new Citroen van.

4. Ford Transit Connect
Leading the way in the small vans market as a whole last month was the Ford Transit Connect. Don't let the appearance and dimensions of the Transit Connect van fool you, this small van is everything you've come to expect from the 'Transit' brand with load volumes amongst some of the best in its segment, excellent levels of comfort and reliability and a number of practical features to make it the perfect business partner.

3. Vauxhall Vivaro
The only van stopping Ford vans having the three leading vans in the market last month was the British built new Vauxhall Vivaro van! The Vauxhall Vivaro has recently joined forces with the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert vans and is now built on the same EMP2 platform underpinning both medium vans with the new Vivaro. The result is a more economical, comfortable and better equipped Vivaro van with a higher payload.

2. Ford Transit
A household name in the UK new van market, the Ford Transit is renowned as a large van which gets the job done. The Transit van has a history spanning more than 50 years and is showing no signs of going anywhere. With a number of large vans for sale being refreshed or updated, the new Ford Transit van has followed suit and has recently received a facelift bringing with it an all- new interior and enhanced payload to name just a couple of highlights.
