The Volkswagen Transporter and electric Volkswagen e-Transporter are Medium Vans that are available in SWB and LWB (short and long wheelbase) lengths with a single ‘normal roof’ height (H1).
Based on the same platform as the Ford Transit Custom, the Volkswagen Transporter dimensions are therefore identical to that of its cousin.
This ensures the Transporter is one of the largest and most practical models in the medium van class thanks to even the SWB model being over five-metres in length (5050mm), rising to 5450mm for the LWB model.
Assisted by a SWB wheelbase of 3100mm and a LWB wheelbase of 3500mm, the Transporter offers 5.8 and 6.8 cubic metres of cargo space.
It also has a useable 2602mm of load length at the floor, rising to 3050mm when fitted with a load-through bulkhead option.
The Transporter is also available as a Kombi crew van in both SWB and LWB configurations, while 2026 is set to see the launch of a high roof (H2) version that isn’t offered on the Ford Transit Custom.

With a turbodiesel engine, the Transporter has a payload capacity of between 851-1280kg in class with the 2.0-litre TDI 150PS offering the most generous weight potential.
The electric Volkswagen e-Transporter offers between 1009-1092kg of payload capacity
The Volkswagen Transporter’s braked towing capacity ranges from 2000 to 2800kg across the entire range, including electric models.
