The Nissan Townstar is a small van available in two body styles – L1 and L2 – plus as a five-seat Crew Van variant.
The Townstar differs from most rivals by not offering a turbodiesel engine as part of its range. Instead, it offers the choice of a small capacity 1.3-litre petrol engine or a 45kWh battery-powered electric alternative.
The Nissan Townstar is offered in two trims - Acenta and Tekna - with petrol or electric powertrains, paired to manual or automatic transmissions. The Crew Van comes exclusively in Tekna trim and L2 configuration.
Rear access is via 180-degree panelled doors, with a kerb-side sliding door standard on L1, while L2 adds an off-side sliding door. The L2 also boasts the widest sliding door opening in the class at 831mm.
Designed for city use, the compact L1 sacrifices some load volume compared to rivals, offering 3.3 cubic metres.
In L2 configuration, the Townstar offers a class-lead rivalling 4.3 cubic metres of load volume, putting it on a par with the Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner, while it is more than the sister Mercedes-Benz Citan.
The Crew Van, which is available only in L2 configuration, offers the option of three rear seats to increase the number of passenger seats to five. The seats can be removed and a bulkhead added to give the Crew Van the versatility of a panel van, increasing the load volume to 3.1 cubic metres.
The Nissan Townstar also has the option of a dual front passenger bench, allowing you to transport three people in the front cabin of a standard panel van.

The Townstar's payload range spans from 502kg for the 45kWh electric L1 model, rising to a maximum of 774kg for the 1.3TCe petrol L2 version.
The Nissan Townstar offers one small van category's most competitive braked towing capacities, allowing for 1500kg in petrol and electric guise.
