New Ford Transit van - available to order NOW!

Ford vans took to the CV Show 2019 to show off the latest version of the iconic Ford Transit van, Vansdirect takes a closer look!

New Ford Transit van

Ford vans continue to dominate the UK market and they don't do this by sitting still, the entirety of their new van range has been facelifted over the last year or so to keep them ahead of competitors and now it's the turn of the largest van of them all, the Ford Transit van! Ford vans gave the new Transit van its UK debut at the CV Show 2019 at the NEC in Birmingham, Vansdirect were there to find out everything you could possibly need to know about the new Ford Transit van!

The facelifted Ford Transit van was first shown at the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover, with the new model not only getting a facelift both outside and inside of the van, it also gets a new engine and gearbox options in conjunction with improved levels of practicality.

This Transit van may not be an all-new model like the latest additions to the large market in the form of the new Mercedes Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter vans, however it is a significant upgrade on the outgoing Transit van and looks certain to take over where the existing Transit van leaves off in the large van market, right at the top of the tree.

What's new on the new Ford Transit van?

Appearance is modified with a sharper new grille mirroring smaller models in the Ford Transit range and a new headlight arrangement. Alongside these modifications to the appearance of the new Ford Transit van, there are also numerous important technical changes to the 2.0-tonne Transit van, including:

Increased payload

This is an area where the Ford Transit can be caught wanting against rival large vans, this is no longer the case. The exact figures may vary, however Ford vans have revealed that the new Transit van will be able to carry up to 80kg more than previous models. This figure applies to long wheelbase rear-wheel drive Transit vans, with front-wheel drive Transit vans being able to carry an extra 48kg over current models.

Enhanced fuel economy

The combination of an updated 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine and other innovations means that the new Transit van is now more economical than ever before. Electric power steering joining the Transit van range for the first time means it is more economical to run than previously, whilst weight savings throughout the van and improved aerodynamics also help the cause. Fuel economy will also be enhanced due to the new Ford Transit van gaining mild hybrid technology for the first time, as a result 3% less fuel is used than the equivalent model without the technology, with that saving improving up to 8% in stop-start traffic.

More power

There's a new range topping 185ps engine delivering 415Nm of torque, meaning the new Transit van is now more powerful than ever before as well as more economical. The previous 105ps, 130ps and 170ps power ratings continue as before, but with the addition of the 185ps option.

All-new interior

The interior of the iconic large van has been completely changed and now features more storage space than previously. The new cab promises to be more comfortable, more car-like and more user-friendly than previously, whilst the fit and finish is said to be more durable.

Built-in 4G modem

The new van also comes with enhanced connectivity features to help fleet management, this works with the new FordPass Connect system to connect to telematics services that Ford vans also plan to launch this year, as well as the FordPass mobile app which allows remote access to the van via a smartphone amongst other features. Amongst the other new technology featured is the brand's latest Ford Sync 3 infotainment system with voice control.

10-speed automatic transmission

The existing Ford Transit automatic option is an old six-speed unit and whilst this performs well, from spring 2020 this will be significantly improved with the introduction of a new 10-speed automatic gearbox which should bring better driving dynamics and a better fuel economy. This will be limited to rear-wheel drive models only.
