An aspiring 14-year-old racer Louis Foster gets off to a head start in this year’s Brands Hatch, winning not one, but TWO rookie races, the Vansdirect sponsored driver certainly got his Ginetta Junior Championship campaign underway in style.
The young racer from Odiham, Hampshire went into the competition with all guns blazing after a solid pre-season behind the wheel of his Elite Motorsport-run car at a testing programme. He set the pace as soon as he hit the tight and challenging track that Brands Hatch ‘Indy’ circuit challenged its contenders with.
Foster, a Lord Wandsworth College student, gave a strong performance in the qualifying rounds resulting in him ranking fourth on the grid of best rookie drivers.
He climbed his way up to third place for a brief encounter at the start of the race before coming under fire from fellow competitor and second year driver Luke Browning, which saw him settling into the fourth spot despite a race-long battle for position.
At every stage of the race Louis displayed maturity beyond his age despite the ever growing pressure from his opponent, and continued to impress us with an incredible drive that secured him that fourth place spot and a rookie win.
Onto the second race of the weekend where the arrival of classic British weather created an additional obstacle for the drivers. Unphased Louis showed maturity on the track which allowed him to match his fourth place result from race one.
This meant that once again he was the best placed rookie, coming away from the weekend standing strong in an impressive fourth place in the overall championship standings.
“It’s a great way to start the season and to come away from Brands Hatch with two rookie wins is just perfect,” he said. “The first race was tough as Luke showed last year that he is a good driver, and I knew it would be difficult to keep him behind. I had to make sure I put my car in the right position on every lap to defend the position and to do that for 17 laps is tough.”
“To get the rookie win was great and then to double up in race two made the weekend even better. The race itself was quite similar to the Winter Series in that there were gaps in the field and I was pretty much left on my own. I had to make sure that I didn’t lose concentration as it would be easy in that situation to make a silly mistake, and I just focused on bringing the car home to get the result.”
“It’s the perfect way to start the season, especially as I’m not sure Brands Hatch will be my strongest circuit, and I want to thank my all my sponsors, including Carwow and VansDirect, for their support.”
“I feel good about my chances heading to Donington Park for the second round where I hope we can build on these results and push for an overall podium finish.”
