Looking to buy a van? Check out the Peugeot Boxer

If you're looking to buy a van, then it's worth taking a look at the Peugeot Boxer. As far as large commercial vans go, it's one of the best.

It's been around for 10 years now - having launched in 2006 - but continues to hold its own against rivals including the Mercedes Sprinter, not forgetting the Citroen Relay and Fiat Ducato which are also essentially the same van with different badges.

The Peugeot Boxer panel van got a facelift a couple of years ago that gave it an attractive appearance with a floating grille, well-styled headlights and the option of LED running lights.

The Boxer range is wide; there are four lengths, three heights, payload capacities vary from 1115kg to 1900kg, load volumes go from 8 to 17 cubic metres and there are a number of conversions available including chassis cabs, tippers, dropsides and crew cabs.

Its extensive body range means it has one of the best payload capacities in the large van sector, trumping even the biggest Ford Transit in terms of load volume. With an ample 1422mm between the wheel arches and a side-door aperture of 1250mm, loading the Peugeot Boxer is easy.

Other class-leading figures include one of the widest loadspace widths (1870mm) while the tallest H3 model offers the biggest interior height (2172mm). This beats both the tallest Mercedes Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter.

Under the hood there's a choice of diesel engines. There's a 2.2-litre HDi unit with power outputs of either 110PS, 130PS or 150PS, while the 3.0-litre engine producing 180PS is better suited to heavy-duty tasks. Peugeot offer the 130PS 2.2-litre unit with Stop/Start technology for improved fuel economy.

Peugeot claim a fuel economy of 41.5mpg on both the 110PS and 130PS versions of the 2.2-litre unit for the short-wheelbase models, whereas a long wheelbase L3 model delivers economy between 39.2mpg and 37.7mpg depending on the power unit.

Standard equipment includes a dual front passenger seat, full-height steel bulkhead, a nearside sliding door, rear doors that open to 180 degrees as well as central locking. The Professional models get a reversing sensor, too - making the Peugeot Boxer an excellent commercial van.
