Citroen Ami Electric Van Review 2024

It’s the little quadricycle with lots to offer. The Citroen Ami is a 100% electric vehicle, built completely around sustainability. Explore a smarter way to transform your business operations.

Citroen Ami driving range

Fitted with a 5.5kWh battery producing up to 6kWs in power, the Citroen Ami offers up to 46 miles (WLTP) electric range. This makes it perfect for city driving, with a top speed of 27.9mph.

Citroen Ami performance, power, and drive

With just three driving modes and automatic transmission, the Citroen Ami is incredibly easy to drive. Switch between Drive, Neutral and Reverse using the three buttons.

Another thing that makes the Citroen Ami both easy and enjoyable to drive is its ultra-compact profile. With a tight turning circle of just 7.20 metres, it makes manoeuvres and parking in busy towns a breeze.

Since it falls into the L6E vehicle category as a light quadricycle, the Ami cannot be driven on motorways and higher-speed roads. When travelling uphill, it can handle most inclines with ease though you may notice an impact on your top speed if these are pretty steep.

It doesn’t creep like many other automatic vehicles when you let go of the brake, though it will roll back on a hill, so you’ll want to go easy. Thanks to its fully electric powertrain, you’ll be able to enjoy a much smoother, quieter drive which is a big bonus.

Citroen Ami cabin and interior

Inside the Citroen Ami you’ll find both character and convenience. Its simple setup shows that good things really do come in small packages.

With a loading length of up to 1.2 metres, the flat floor can be adjusted to two levels, perfect for larger items. There’s also up to 40kg of shelf storage available, and a net-and-hook system to keep things secure.

In total, you’ll have up to 400 litres of usable volume and 140kg payload. Whether you’re dropping off flowers, food or deliveries, the Citroen Ami is proactive and practical.

Citroen Ami dimensions and load space

It may be small, though that’s not to say inadequate. Measuring just 2.41m long, 1.39m wide, and 1.52m high, the Ami makes an agile little workhorse to keep your business moving.

Despite its ultra-compact interior, it still offers a handy 63 litres of boot space for storing items in the back. The Citroen Ami Cargo has been specially designed for businesses, with a modular storage compartment.

Accessed at the touch of a button, all you need to do is press the Citroen Switch button or use voice commands. Simply pair the app with your smartphone and enjoy the following features:

Citroen Ami running cost and value

Thinking ahead to ownership, you’ll find the Citroen Ami Cargo relatively economical to run. As we’ve already mentioned, it produces zero emissions meaning you won’t pay any road tax or congestion zone charges.

It’s also simple to maintain, with far fewer moving parts than a traditional petrol or diesel van. It only requires servicing every two years or every 12,500 miles – whichever comes first. You’ll also receive a two-year Citroen warranty with unlimited mileage and a battery warranty of three years or up to 25,000 miles. Peace of mind – tick!

Citroen Ami charging

For a simple vehicle, you would expect simple charging – and that’s exactly what you get with the Ami Cargo. The Ami was manufactured with a European two-pin plug, however it can be easily charged with a Type 2 wall box converter.

You’ll receive a Type 2 adaptor included for charging on the go, making it compatible with any public charging station without a tethered cable. Unfortunately, the Citroen Ami Cargo offers single-speed charging only, meaning it’ll take four hours to charge it from 0-100%.

The good news, however, is that it’s probably one of the cheapest electric vans to charge. With standard charging costs at 29p per kWh, this means it’ll only cost you £1.82 to charge your Ami.

Citroen Ami pros and cons

As with any van you buy, regardless of powertrain, shape or size, there will be both pros and cons. We’ve rounded these up for you here to save you the job, as it’s always worth knowing what you’re in for.

Pros Cons
Zero emissions meaning fuel and tax savings Restricted speed of 27.9mph
Exemption from Low Emission Zone (LEZ) and Clean Air Zone (CAZ) charges Slower charging times – up to four hours for a single charge
Tighter turning circle of 7.20m perfect for navigating busy cities Can’t be driven on motorways
Cheap charging prices Limited boot space
Innovative interior storage options Only 46 miles of electric range with each charge

Citroen Ami rivals

When it comes to the rapidly expanding electric van market, the Ami has got quite the competition. Although loved for its quirky design, there are other vans that stand out with better performance and equipment on offer.

These include the likes of the Peugeot Partner E, Renault Kangoo E-Tech, and Mercedes-Benz e-Vito. The Ami even has rivals within its own family to compete with, including popular models like the Citroen e-Relay, and Citroen Berlingo-E.

Overall, the Citroen Ami Cargo makes a fantastic choice if you’re looking to economise with your business. It’s ideal for delivery companies, with an easy driving experience and practical storage.
