Nissan D22 Recall
Nissan are currently contacting owners of their D22 Pickup - those produced prior to August 2006. In addition, Nissan have extended the warranty on these vehicles to five years / 93,000 miles. If you fear your vehicle fits this description, contact your local dealer immediately. The fault concerns the con rod bearings which have been found to wear out more quickly than expected. It's suggested that the fault is most likely to occur when the vehicle is at least 3 years old and has more than 50,000 miles on the clock.
If the problem arises, the driver will first hear a loud knocking sound. If he or she doesn't stop immediately, this knocking will progress into a loud bang certainly resulting in massive damage, if not even terminal damage to the engine.
According to Nissan, the problem has only effected 2.4% of all these vehicles sold in the UK and only 1% of those sold in Europe. However, Vansdirect recommends contacting your dealer immediately - remember should it happen to your D22, the damage is so severe that it's cheaper to replace the engine than repair it!
