Citroën vans carry the weight

AST Ambulance Service, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist medical transport, has introduced two Citroën Relay vans into its fleet.  The two Citroën Relay 35 L3H2 120hp vans will be used for emergency transport to medical patients weighing 50 stone or more.

Each of the new Citroën Relay vans cost almost £50,000 due to the necessary modifications.  The converted  Citroën Relay vans include removable seating, reinforced loading ramps, special stretchers and electric winch equipment; all supplied and fitted by Oughtred & Harrison.

AST Ambulance isn't stopping there.  In addition to the Citroën Relay vans, they have also purchased a Citroën Dispatch Dispatch 2.0HDi van - also converted to support the needs of bariatric patients (obese patients).  A further £1m will be invested in bariatric vehicles by AST Ambulance to accommodate the growing demand from the UKs National Health Service.

In addition to carrying the 'extra weight,' the Citroën vans will be expected to accumulate nearly 100,000 miles a year each; reliability is also a necessity!
