London Low Emission Zone for vans and minibuses

Vans and minibuses which are more than 10 years old are now facing a new charge of £100 a day in Greater London.  It is the first time the vehicles have fallen under the Low Emission Zone, which covers most roads inside the M25.
From Tuesday, tougher restrictions will also mean £200 daily fees for lorries, buses and coaches which fall short of European Union standards on pollution.

Survey Reveals 3 in 10 Text at the Wheel

A recent survey has revealed that almost 3 in 10 drivers text whilst at the wheel.  1 in 13 do this at least once a week,  meanwhile 1 in 11 drivers checks the web, emails, uses apps or social networking websites whilst driving.
In a large-scale study of commercial drivers it was concluded that drivers that use their mobile phone whilst driving increase their risk of having an accident by 23 times.

Drivers Risking Lives on Illegal Tyres

A recent audit has revealed that 42% of British motorists are risking fines and potential driving bans on a daily basis by making journeys on dangerously worn tyres.  The biggest culprits were found to be in Birmingham, the North East and the Cheshire area.  Some vehicles had 3 or even all 4 tyres worn out beyond the legal limit.  This could amount to 12 penalty points and up to a £10,000 fine, let alone the road safety issue.  Voices across the motor industry are strongly recommending that all motorist check tyres for the winter period to save lives in the UK.
